Jaguar's mighty D-Type was a winner right out of the gate with highly advanced aerodynamic design and performance. On the rare occasion where an original example comes to market, prime specimens command prices well into the eight figure range. In the early 1980s, the Tempero Automobile Company of South Ireland, New Zealand began limited production of new D-Types, faithfully based on the original design. Without compromise, Tempero created all-new central monocoques, front subframes with upgraded suspension and brakes. Correct wooden bucks were constructed to which dedicated artisans fitted hand-made alloy panels, faithfully replicating what many consider to be some of the most authentic and superior recreations ever produced.
This particular car began life as a 1964 3.8L Mk X Saloon and was reborn anew in the early 1990's, special ordered by its California owner, finished in the famous Briggs Cunningham livery, styled after "short nose" chassis no. XKD525R. Power is supplied by a correct 3.8 liter Jaguar engine with D-type cam profiles and Weber dual side-draft carburetors, mated to a 4-speed manual overdrive transmission. Equipment also includes Dunlop alloy peg drive knock-off wheels, spare tire, correct blue leather seating, seat belts, fuel cell, adjustable coil suspension, disc brakes, aluminum radiator, oil and coolant sumps.
Driven less than 2,200 miles since new with long-term limited ownership, the car is recognized in the Saloon Registry and was previously shown at the Jaguar Clubs of North America Concours d'Elegance June 2004 (99.59 Points) and Jaguar Clubs of North America Concours d'Elegance June 2005 (98.1 Points), as well as several local gatherings thereafter. Today, it displays a gorgeously mellowed patina with some crazing on what is believed to be the original paint. Additionally, the D-type drives exceptionally well with all safety equipment required for vintage racing, touring and 50-state street legal enjoyment.
This exceedingly unique Jaguar by Tempero is a beauty to behold, and will certainly provide the ultimate driving experience on today's roads. It is ideally suited for shows, tours, rallies and fun Cars & Coffee gatherings! Now available for worldwide purchase and delivery.
Note: Titled as a 1964 Jaguar.
