Here is a very solid 1978 Jeep J10 Pickup with the factory 401 engine. This truck spent its life in very dry central Oregon. known as "high desert" country. which explains why it is as preserved as it is and it never rusted out. The paint was very oxidized when I got it. but some diligent buffing managed to bring out the shine quite nicely. By all appearances the truck appears to have been repainted at some point. but its hard to find any tell-tale signs of paint work such as overspray along weatherstrip or in the door jambs or under the hood. The truck does have some dents as seen in the photos. and there are a few areas where the paint is bubbling and lifting. but this appears due to poor paint prep in those areas rather than rust coming through the backside. If you view the video (link below) you will see that there is no rust on the underside or in the typical areas such as the rockers. the undersides of the bed sides. or the fender bottoms. I chose not to do any kind of repairs on the dents or flaking paint. so you can see exactly what you are getting. The bed shows some wear and use. but its in overall fair condition for a 37-year-old truck. There is one spot in the front passenger corner of the bed where an auxiliary fuel tank was mounted and dirt accumulated. causing the vertical post of the bed to rust out in that area. This can be seen in the video. Based on the way the truck is equipped. it appears that this is a Golden Eagle edition. The one feature that it is lacking is the decals that would be found on the hood and the sides of the body. However. I suspect that these were simply not replaced after the truck was repainted. The features that it does have include a set of original-paint exclusive Golden Eagle wagon wheels with the black pinstripe. factory grille guard and rollbar. and the Levi's interior. Short of a build sheet or window sticker. I don't believe a truck can be verified as a Golden Eagle edition. I welcome any additional information that anyone can provide. The "25" in the VIN denotes this as a 119" wheelbase truck (as opposed to 131" wheelbase). making this a shortbed. The "Z" in the VIN denotes 401 4bbl engine. The engine runs well and does not smoke or knock. There also does not appear to be any major leaking going on. I have a friend who is an ASE certified master tech. and he rebuilt the oil pump. replaced the oil pan gasket. and replaced the valve cover gaskets. I have not tuned the truck up. but I'm sure it would run even better with some new ignition parts. I have not inspected the brakes. or pressure-tested the cooling system. so I would not advise that the truck be driven any long distance instead of being transported. The tires on the truck are also worn out. which is another reason not to "drive it home. " One other mechanical issue that needs addressing is that there is a "clunk" in the driveline when shifting into reverse. Most likely there is a u-joint that needs to be replaced. There is only one tailgate strap on the truck. but I'm assuming it can't be too hard to find one here on ebay. As noted above. the truck has the Levi's edition tan interior. This interior was not known to be durable. and the covers on the seats in this truck do indeed have some wear and soiling. The door panels are also in need of some attention. The carpet has a heavier nap to it. and I'm not sure if that was part of the Levi's package or not. It shows very little wear. and it also seems to be custom-fit to the truck. making me believe its an original carpet. It has piping along the edges. and seems to fit all the contours of the floor very well. The dash pad is in excellent condition. with no cracks. The lights. wipers. horn. radio. and heater are all in working condition. although one of the radio knobs is stripped. There are two vent knobs which seem to be stuck. having been pulled through their anchors on the dash. The truck has the optional sport wheel and tilt steering. and the tilt is operational. In one of the pics you will note the rear license frame from Jim Smolich Motors. They are a Jeep dealer who has been in Central Oregon since 1968. so I'm guessing they were the original selling dealer. Note how old the frame is - it still has Datsun on it! One other neat item that is included with the truck is the original Goodyear Tracker A-T spare. It has never been on the ground. and still has what's left of the protective plastic film over the white letters. I will try to include a pic of it in the listing. I will assist buyer in getting truck to your transporter. and may be able to provide short-term storage if truck cannot be transported right away.
