I've decided to sell my 1999 Cherokee police package to someone who will get some use out of it. After reading and hearing about the durable 4.0 and seeing that people love these original Cherokees, decided I wanted one. After I found out that a police package was offered, hen I really wanted one. :) I bought it to run back and forth between my properties, ut at a stocky 6 feet and over 50 years old, 'd rather climb in and out of my 3/4 ton Suburban. :) I currently have 5 vehicles, icensed and insured, nd something's got to go.
Let me start by saying I've been on ebay for about 12 years and have sold maybe 4 or 5 cars in that time. I describe the vehicle as best as I can and have had only satisfied buyers. Just warning you that a lengthy description follows. :)
This Jeep Cherokee came from a small town in West Virginia where it was being driven by the towns Chief of Police. It is a true Police Package, ith Certified 120 MPH speedometer, igh idle switch, ull gauge package, eavy duty suspension, ront and rear skid plates, nd heavier cooling system and oil cooler.
I didn't know why they were selling it, ut when I got out on the highway there's was a weird flapping noise. It turns out the fender flare as well as the plastic wheel well liner were loose. I removed those two items and was QUIETLY on my way. :)
I drove from West Virginia north to Pittsburgh then on to Ohio before heading home to Texas. No further issues. The starter seemed to crank a little slow, o I bought a new battery and terminals. At that time I noticed some rust under the battery tray. Once I got back home, pulled the battery and tray, reated the rusty area, nd modified a new tray with treated wood and a battery box. Apparently Jeep put an aluminum plate between their battery tray and the steel fender. Obviously galvanic reaction caused the rusting. I custom cut a piece of treated 2by and secured it from below with a steel strap. Then custom cut a piece of plywood. I used the bottom 2 inches of a plastic battery box for my tray and the factory hold down clamp. It turned out pretty slick. It should only last about 15 years. ;)
Well, he new battery didn't speed up the starter, ut it starts so easy, can't see replacing it as long as it works. I'd probably throw a new starter in the back if I was crossing the country. If it doesn't sell, plan on a trip in it to Minnesota at the end of August.
The other rust is in the floor and the back of the rockers. The city patched the drivers side, nd I laid some steel down on the passengers side. Both makeshift repairs, ut will last years. The frame rails under the floors are SOLID! There are videos on youtube showing how to replace the pans properly. Or don't and just drive it as is for 5-10 years! :)
The Jeep is a little cold blooded and tends to surge when cold. It must be some temp sensor, ecause once warm it just purrs and runs great. The A/C blows cold and all controls function normally. The gauges all work and stay in the normal operating zones. The tires all have plenty of tread, ut there is no spare. I do have a matching rim to mount a spare on and could probably dig up a tire here to use as a spare.
The glass is all good but the passenger side front window doesn't go up and down. I can hear the motor spinning. They had something wedged in the window and I supplemented it with a couple rubber door stops to hold things in place until a regulator can be installed.
The drivers seat was replaced with another Jeep seat but it is gold, ot black so I put a black seat cover on it. The other seats are all in good shape. Actually, he interior overall is nice. There are some added switches in the dash to operate the light bar and those connections are still in place in case you wanted to put a bar back on.
The hood and doors were scratched up when they tried removing the decals and other decal impressions remain. I put Army stars on it to help cover things up. The body is very straight overall, ith doors and hatch that open, lose, nd lock smoothly. I disconnected the little arms that hold the front doors open because they are a noisy pain. There are a coupe minor dings here and there, ut as the photos will show, othing highly notable. The Jeep has electric locks, ut no key fob.
I had my mechanic replace the valve cover gasket because it was obviously seeping over the years. I also asked why the emergency brake wasn't holding and was told it just needed new brake shoes in back. I bought them, ut haven't put them in.
I also bought 6 Bosch fuel injectors. Only because the new injectors have 4 holes compared to the factory 1. Don't get me wrong, he Jeep runs fine, ut I can see these injectors are original and it would probably help increase mileage. Not yet installed, ut I'll throw them in.
That's about all I can think of. I live 45 miles north of Houston if you want to come look at the Jeep. And if you want to fly in and drive it home, can pick you up at either Houston airport. I can also hold the Jeep for up to 90 days, s long as you pay in full.
Please message me a phone number if you have less than 10 ebay transactions OR have been an ebay member less than 6 months. If not, our bid may be deleted.
I know this was long winded but I also know buying a car sight unseen can be a little unnerving. I can assure you the Cherokee is just as described and with proper maintenance could end up being a 300,000 miler! :)
Thanks for looking and
Good luck!
I'll add more photos tonight or tomorrow!

The Cherokee is equipped with anti-lock brakes and I believe a 242 transfer case. I added a pic of the selector.
The tinted windows are actually factory tinted glass. Not an applied tint.
The Jeep also has passenger side air bag.
