Out of a private collection rarest of the rare and documented !
1969 was the baddest of the bad the 1969 Corvette could tailor to anyones needs. It had over 65 changes and upgrades vs the 1968 model. It had and endless menu of options. After 1969 it was all downhill, people realized this so do to the strike in 1969 for a couple months. The horsepower crazy public ordered the 1969 Corvette almost till 1970. The 1969 Corvette had its issues with deliveries and back ordered options. People that ordered the side piped cars waited months to get these cars. The side piped cars were more desirable and they had a different body then the tail piped cars. The side piped cars didn't have the exhaust slots in the rear of the car they were solid. A side piped car is worth 50% more the a non sided piped car. Ask any of the the old school collectors of these rare cars they will tell you its a rare piece!1969 Corvette 427 435 horse convertible L89 Aluminum heads factory side pipe car 1 of 390 built. There were only 167 L89 convertibles built.Taking the options and colors in consideration I would say maybe 1 of 10 if that. But how many are actually left is the question???
1969 is the only year that a Corvette could be ordered with side pipes. They could be dealer installed other years but not ordered from the factory. Only 10% of the cars ordered in 1969 had the side pipe option.
Sold at Alan Green Chevrolet in Seattle Washington.Alan Green was known like Yenko for there race car dealerships. His dealership sponsored the Cheetah race car in the 60's and there 1968 Camaro race car.
This car has all the right rare options.I see these climbing like crazy in the past 6 months check out Hagerty valuation. This is a unrestored 75000 original mile car. The car spent its whole life in Los Angeles area very clean underneath and dry no rust.
I was told some of the original paint is still on the car approximately 75% of it. Whoever did the paint did a great job blending and preserving the original paint. It looks to be clear coated with lacquer clear like original. There are a few areas that are showing its age on top of the front fenders and by the door handle area. The car is not perfect but an exceptional condition for its age.
This was a late build car it took delivery on 11-11-69. The late L89 cars had the better aluminum heads then the early L89 heads 3919842 had smaller exhaust valves 1.720 vs 1.880 of the 3946074 heads. The late heads are 3946074 open chamber bigger valves 2.190 intake 1.880 exhaust the same heads as the ZL1 and L88 cars one of the best heads GM ever made.
The head casting numbers are 3946074 see the pictures. They had 50 more horsepower then the early cars with the 3919842 heads.
I seen these car selling for 190000 to 260000 in good to restored condition. I drove this car only a few times. Its extremely fast and tigh, steering, shifting its just one of those cars that feel right.
Matching numbers block casting numbers are 3963512 late 1969.
