Super original find from Southwestern Missouri! This Model served the family’s Kansas grocery store when new and continued to stay with the family for 93 years! Remarkable tale not shared by many vehicles today! Still is full operation having just been fully serviced! What a treasure!
Henry Ford continued to produce America’s affordable Model T at a rapid pace into the 1920’s, averaging over 1 million units each year! The simplicity of the design, along with nine model choices to choose from, made Ford an easy choice for budget conscience buyers. They consisted of an inline four cylinder 177ci L-head engine producing an estimated 20 horsepower, two-speed planetary transmission, solid front axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf spring, live rear axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf spring on a 100†wheelbase, and two-wheel mechanical rear drum brakes.
It is quite rare to ever come across a car that had stayed with the same, caring family from new. In the case of this very special 1923 Ford Model T Huckster, it did just that. For 93 years it was passed down among the generations after serving its early life as their grocery store delivery truck and produce hauler! Hailing originally from Corona, KS where it was purchased new and served the community Vinardi Grocery Store owned by the Michael & Angelina Bushnell. It later traveled to the neighboring State of Missouri where it remained with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren until 2016! Since being retired from service, it was mainly prized as a priceless heirloom in a small car collection. Used primarily in local summer parades in Carl Junction, MO, located in southwestern Missouri just outside of Joplin, it always saw annual exercise. Restored only as needed over the years, it shares a telling story when looking over the condition these days. It is fair to say that Henry Ford would be exceptionally proud! You will find only a few small parts replaced with improvised parts, but the majority of the truck remains largely even after all these years.
Upon arrival to our facility, we opted to replace the brass gas tank sediment bowl/shut off valve underneath the gas tank, drain all old fluids, rebuild the carburetor entirely, replace the spark plug wires for brand new, add a fuel line petcock to the carburetor feed line under the hood for easier access, and completely rebuild the rear brake system with fresh shoes, springs, axle seals, mechanical rods, and all other necessary components. All parts receipts from Snyder’s Antiques Parts will be provided. The features on the car include correct, July 1923-date coded 201.5ci Inline 4 cylinder engine, cloth-covered wiring, planetary transmission, 12-spoke wood wheels wrapped in Wards Riverside 30 x 3.5†tires, closable doors, manual windshield wiper on tilt-out front window, plated hubcaps, under hood horn, dash amperes meter, and rear mounted spare tire. It starts and runs quite, well and we invite buyers looking for interesting pieces for their collections to call with offers. Chances like this do not come around very often!
