1998 Land Rover Discovery 300TDI Turbo Diesel 5 Speed Manual Transmission

1998 Land Rover Discovery LSE 300tdi turbo diesel. 50th anniversary edition originally purchased new in Thousand Oaks Ca. I am second owner and I bought it in 2008. This Discovery has been converted to a Land Rover 300 TDI turbo diesel and 5 speed manual transmission. I purchased a complete donor 300tdi Discovery in Germany 1997 disco 2 door cut it in half and shipped home to California. This conversion is as close to a factory installed 300 TDI as possible.

Engine received an overhaul prior to swap. New rings. bearings and seals.. Truck had about 110k when i did the swap. Diesel donor had 133,00km. Truck is at about 138,000 now and 30,000 mileson engine since overhaul.. Tactical Rover front winch bumper. BFG all terrain tires with less than 2000 miles on them. Replaced driveshaft rag joint to conventionalyoke and universal joints. This is a much stronger than the rag joint setup. 2 ½” to 3” inch straight pipe exhaust. K&N air filter. EGR bypass.

New or newer parts. Fresh timing belt and pulleys. Fresh cylinder head, ead gasket and bolts. New alternator. New water pump. New vacuum pump. New diesel fuel lift pump. New thermostat and hoses. Steering gear box replaced with NOS unit about a year ago. This is the 50th anniversary edition and comes equipped with leather center console cover, ontrasting piped leather seating, hrome rear bumper and several other options that were not available on other models

I installed euro code head lights.

2 cartridges for cd changed

Power locks and factory keyless entry with 1 controller

2 CD changer cartridges

Has working front and rear A/C. this option was not available on factory TDI

All factory Cruise Control equipment is intact just need throttle cable diaphragm installed to complete system. This option was not available on TDI models

Rover runs great. Fires right up and runs sweet. Exhaust sounds great and is really fun to drive. Shifts thru all gears up and down perfectly. R380 diff lock model manual transmission and trasfer case shifts easily in and out of low range and diff lock.

22-35mpg all depends on your foot.

I'm selling this Discovery because IT CAN NOTBE SMOGGED IN CAdue to new emission regulations. She now requires a CARB sticker which I am unable to obtain. The registration fees are paid current but the smog certificate cannot be obtained so in turn the registration cannot be completed. I never had a problem with the emissions until this year when they changed the testing equipment and the requirements for '98 Diesels in California. Without this CARB sticker and emission certificate it is CANNOT LEGALLY BE DRIVEN on the roads of the Peoples Republic of California. Please know the laws and emissions regulations for your state prior to bidding.

Condition is good for the age. Never been in an accident but had a fender replaced once. Oil change place closed hood on some tools and fender was damaged and replaced. Factory roof rack bows new never used still in packaging. I have always kept up on the maintance on this truck.

Ok the bad or should I say regular land rover stuff.

Head liner is sagging here and there.

I removed pins from ignition switch. I went thru 3 in a year and got tired of dealing with it.

Some buttons work when they want to

Low pressure return power steering line is leaking just a little bit. I think from sitting. Easy fix

Seats work fine but sometimes you have to jiggle the cable

Stereo jiggles around sometimes

Washer fluid bottle is cracked

antilock brake light is on

it is a rover so I"m sure there is something else.

Tensioner plully bearing is squeeking. I ordered a new one from rovers north. It will not ship until

Jan 6 2016. I can install it then or send it off with new owner.

I noticed brake light was coming on in video. fluid was low.

I have a stack of parts I will include to the winning bidder for free if you want them. I will not issue a credit if you do not.
