Description

I recently purchased this gorgeous & recently restored 1995 Range Rover Classic LWB only in late June of this year and she has been stored in my climate controlled garage on a battery tender since. Listing for sale as I have too many cars right now, bit off more than I can chew perhaps and I joined a high intensity start-up (and have a 2 yr old!) so I just have no time to enjoy her and would rather that she go to a great home and be enjoyed more than I can. I think I have put less than 100 miles on her since purchase and she is just as exactly as-pictured in the many photos below and in the original well documented description. My loss is certainly your gain.

For sale: A BEAUTIFUL and RARE color combination, restored, serviced, clean Carfax, clear title, rust free, 1995 Land Rover Range Rover County LWB! It has been very well cared for and drives like a dream and looks absolutely stunning in Cornish Cream over Lightstone Leather!

Background:

Let me begin with a little background. This gorgeous Rover was produced for the 1995 model year as a send off celebration to the timeless Range Rover Classic. Featuring it's one year only interior, it is THE Rover be had. Only 2,494 of both the Short Wheel Base (SWB) and the Long Wheel Base (LWB) were imported to the United States. Moreover, the SWB was only offered in 3 colors (Epsom Green, Alpine White and Beluga Black), the LWB was offered in eight additional LWB only colors, like this Cornish Cream. To many a 1995 Cornish Cream, LWB is the holy grail of Rover Classics and yet here she is!

When built in mid 1994, this Rover was built from the factory fully loaded. Power windows, power locks, power seats, Connelly leather, generous rear space, dual zone climate control, loads of real wood adorning the interior, and on and on. One upping its smaller SWB brother as well was the LWB only 4.2L V8, in place of the smaller, less powerful SWB 3.9L V8. This 4.2L packs more punch than the 3.9L and does more than simply add some power. It adds an element of increased ease. Less throttle to pull away at lights, less effort to merge on a highway. This was Rover at its best: comfortable, luxurious and capable while ready for any adventure on or off-road! The Lightstone leather interior is supple and warm in color, the Cornish Cream too is by its namesake creamy and beautiful. Rover knocked it out of the box with this last year beauty, truly.

This creamy beauty has been thoughtfully and thoroughly restored over the course of over 3 months of daily work. The engine was removed for a refresh both mechanically and cosmetically. The undercarriage has been mostly disassembled, cleaned, painted and received piles of new hardware and even the correct factory markings. The 20 year leather was completely removed and redone in 100% factory correct pattern in high quality Connelly competitor leather (Connelly went out of business some years ago). The wood was removed, stripped and refinished. The wheels were removed, stripped and refinished. And on and on and on. This truck has received PILES AND PILES of love, restoration, service and attention and is ready to find a new home.

I promise you, the details are better than the summary, so please read on! Let's continue to the service!

The Condition and Service:

This truck has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained, serviced and is a high standard for Rover service!

Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:

This engine had average miles for the year with 167,000 miles appear on the odometer. It showed no signs of distress, head gasket issues, overheating, knocking or oil pressure issues. But as part of a effort to have her last for many more years, the engine was removed for a wonderful refresh. There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this truck to keep the engine in near brand new condition. The motor is very healthy and has loads of smooth power! And a happy Rover will go and go and go happily for hundreds of thousands of miles. And this happy Rover has received LOADS of preventative maintenance to make sure of that. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS.

-ENGINE

As part of the preventive service schedule, this truck received BRAND NEW OEM head gaskets and OEM head bolts, torqued not only in the correct manner from the factory, but marked as a single visual reference point and then double checked by using a very expensive Snap-On digital torque wrench which reads angles in which bolts have been turned to ensure all the bolts have gone the proper amount of degrees. The cylinder heads were cleaned, decked and pressure checked! The engine block and rotating assembly were checked and cleaned. There was no significant wear to be seen, showing signs of a healthy and well loved engine and base in which to build. The engine then received BRAND NEW valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets and seals, front cover gasket, OEM cork oil pan gasket, upper and lower exhaust manifold gaskets and upper intake gaskets, rear main seal, front crank seal, among a few other minor seals. These were done in order to keep with the same high regard and care. The upper and lower intakes, valve covers and front cover were thoroughly cleaned, bead blasted and painted. The fuel rail was diassembled, bead blasted and painted. The fuel injectors were cleaned and flow checked. BRAND NEW fuel filter converted to GM clamp on style on avoid the inevitable rounded and corroded fittings. The steering pump mount was removed, bead blasted and painted. The engine hook was removed, bead blasted and painted. The oil breather was removed, cleaned and painted. The entire engine was assembled taking care to remove each nut and bolt, wash, and wire wheel. Re-read that. EVERY engine bolt has been cleaned, washed and wire wheeled! Tedious job for such a small detail, but it had to be done! The engine bay was also steam cleaned, then cleaned by hand additionally, to make sure it presented as nice as the engine. Take a nice look at the engine bay, clean throughout! Every vacuum line has been replaced on the truck! Even check out the oil filter! Most people are happy to spin on the local $5 AutoZone filter. Not this one. This truck has the unnecessarily expensive $35 OEM Land Rover filter. Oil lines have been re-o-ringed and cleaned. Fresh 20/50W oil. The detail work goes on and on. This service was done within 100 miles as part of this truck's ongoing preventative care. THIS is the maintenance you want to see on a Rover! The truck runs COOL as can be and has never overheated.

-COOLING SYSTEM

This radiator flows fantastic thanks to a removal and rodding service to clean all of the channels of build up. The truck then received BRAND NEW upper and lower radiator hoses, new expansion tank to radiator hose, throttle body to engine hose, throttle body to radiator hose and both heater core hoses. EVERY cooling hose is BRAND NEW. Additionally the truck received a brand new expansion tank and brand new expansion tank cap. Also to keep this beauty's water flowing it received a BRAND NEW OEM water pump! This Rover stays cool beyond cool! The temp needle NEVER moves past 8 o'clock even with the AC on and in traffic. The proper coolant is used and brand new! Please note, the upper fan shroud was removed for pictures to better show the front of the engine and is included with the sale. The entire system was pressure bled, not burped to make sure every air bubble was removed!

-IGNITION SYSTEM and STARTING SYSTEM

BRAND NEW OEM Lucas distributor cap and OEM Lucas rotor. BRAND NEW OEM vacuum advance unti. BRAND NEW Bosch coppers (the RIGHT plugs) and STI spark plug wires. The distributor had the air gap adjusted and timing is spot on. Distributor was cleaned and painted. The distributor clamp was removed bead blasted and painted. BRAND NEW starter!

-BATTERY

BRAND NEW Interstate battery!! Cranks hard and fast everytime!

-BELT

BRAND NEW ContiTech serpentine belt!

-AIR FILTER

BRAND NEW K&N air filter! Air Filter box, to and bottom, was removed, cleaned with glass beads and then cleaned with plastic polish.

-EXHAUST

Aside from the previously mentioned upper and lower exhaust manifold gaskets, this LWB also had the manifolds removed, bead blasted and sprayed in a durable super high temp paint. Each manifold bolt was removed, bead blasted and threads cleaned. The down pipe and catalytic convertors were cleaned and features a BRAND NEW exhaust after the cat including muffler, pipe and silencer.

-TRANSMISSION The transmission was replaced with a freshly re-built one, of course a BRAND NEW filter and fluid and shifts great! The pan was dropped, and bead blasted and painted!

-TRANSFER CASE:

BRAND NEW transfer case fluid oil, BRAND NEW rear driveshaft flange bolts and a bead blasted and painted e-brake drum.

-DIFFERENTIALS and DRIVELINE BRAND NEW gear oil in the diffs! Resealed with no leaks. BRAND NEW u-joints! Every grease fitting has been greased! Driveshaft were dropped......bead blasted and painted. Hardware has been replaced.

There has been approximately over $10k in retail refreshing, parts and labor invested just in the above!!!

Lets move to the chassis, suspension and brakes:

-UNDERCARRIAGE

Almost the entire under side of the car was disassembled, cleaned and painted in durable OEM style paint. What is OEM style paint? You see a lot of people just rattle can some semi-gloss on and call it a day. That is too shiny and looks cheap. The real OEM paint was only about 30% gloss, so black paint must be flattened more. Take a look at the underside pictures to see the correct style! The floors and frame were painted, all hardware was either replaced, cleaned and bead blasted/wire brushed. Aside from dropping the axles, every piece was removed down to the brake shields to be stripped and painted! Even the factory frame number, correct as it left England is re written in the exact font! This is normally hidden by the air suspension components, but replicated to be factory correct! $1,800 in costs here!

-BRAKES

BRAND NEW front and rear brakes pads. The calipers were removed, pins cleaned and lubed and lines bled. The truck brakes great. No ABS lights! $400 in cost!

-SPRINGS and SHOCKS

Rover Classics left the factory with Electronic Air Suspension and while a nice feature, it can be expensive to upkeep and often those who venture out for camping or otherwise prefer the durability and reliability of coil springs. This Rover is one of the lucky ones which has been converted to NEW Terrafirma springs and NEW Terrafirma shocks! No more EAS nail biting moments or worries. But, don't stop reading there! One frustrating thing about most conversions is that many people covert to springs and nearly all leave all of the EAS components in place, weighing down the truck for no reason! This truck has had EVERY EAS suspension component: valve block, tank, compressor, lines, sensors - everything - removed! $850 here +$200 in removal of EAS

-4WD SYSTEM

4WD Low and High both work great!

-MUDFLAPS

BRAND NEW OEM mudflaps, brackets and hardware: $200

Let's continue to the exterior:

-PAINT

The paint is gorgeous! It is a 9- out of 10. Shiny, beautiful Cornish Cream paint was recently polished, finished and waxed. NO ACCIDENTS! CLEAN CARFAX. NO STORIES. The creamy white paint is deep and has a wonderful luster! No roof fade or chipping! No hood fade or chipping! There were some stone chips which appeared on the hood, fear not! The hood has been been paint corrected and features ZERO stone chips! The rear lower tailgate and tailgate area had some chips and few spots of surface oxidation (but no "rust"). This was handled the RIGHT way, by removing the tailgate and acid dipping the entire thing! After being dipped it was cleaned thoroughly, and using Glasurit prep and paint was refinished in PERFECTLY matched Cornish Cream again. Even the hand painted pinstripes were matched perfectly! The truck looks much better than most 50k mile cars let alone a rugged truck, let alone a 22 year old truck! Not wanting to mess with an otherwise remarkable body the original paint is in VERY good job shape. There are a few very minor inclusions: a couple chips on the edges of the doors (can not see unless you have your eyes RIGHT on it from 6 inches away). A small ding on the cowl, only seen in some angles and a few very small dings and scratches that again need to been seen only at certain angles and very up close. There was a minor touch up of the clear coat/chipping on the passenger side front fender, that takes a low sun, bat like eyes and a magnifying glass. Remember this is a near 22 year old truck, there may be some very minor scratches, wear not discussed in detail etc, but they are well below any expectation level for Rover or cars of this year. Even against more modern cars the paint will compete head to head - it really is beautiful. $3,800 in paint correction done by a highly acclaimed painter here in LA whose shop is more typical filled with 60s Ferraris.

-DECALS

BRAND NEW correct 3D Rover lettering on front and rear including the "County LWB" decals! Exact OEM distances and placement and dead straight! $250

-TIRES

BRAND NEW Bridgestone Dualler AT tires with loads of tread life left on the tires! Fronts and rears have 95% tread left and are wonderful condition with NO leaks: $875

-WHEELS

BRAND NEW total wheel refinish! OEM Typhoon Wheels were removed, repaired of any minor curb marks or flaws and entirely repainted, clearcoated and polished. They look utterly fantastic!

-BUMPERS, VALANCES and PLASTICS

The bumpers are in wonderful shape and free of the typical missing or broken bumperettes that were for 1995 only! They are not made from the factory anymore and impossible to find this clean! End caps are in wonderful shape and free of sun fade. Check out the up close pics! No scuffs, no cracks, no rubs, no issues! They, along with the other plastic or rubberized plastic trim, shines beautifully! These little bits of trim quality and integrity drastically increase the look and beauty of a Rover! No cracks in the fog lights or the lower valance! Wiper sprayers have a little sun fade, but are unbroken, a true rarity.

-GLASS/MIRRORS

Not to let a pebble defeat this truck, this truck features a BRAND NEW windshield! Beautifully clear glass makes a world of difference. It makes the truck feel brand new! The door glass is wonderful shape! Check out the mirror shots - no scuffs, rubs, paint etc so typical in trucks over time! No ink popped in the rear view center mirror! Another Rover miracle! $350

-TRAILER HITCH

The Rover has a factory trailer hitch and plug ready!

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS

Take a moment, to go look at the BRAND NEW Lightstone leather seats below, I will wait.....you back? I will give you a moment to reattach your jaw! BRAND NEW super high quality Connelly style leather graces this cabin top to bottom! The old leather after 20+ years needed some love, so each panel was disassembled, measured and each new panel cut from the old to make the exact OEM pattern and used the exact OEM grain! You can not tell these are not a set of brand new factory seats that were put away since new! Arm rests too were rewrapped in this buttery soft leather. And let's not forget the smell! Open the door, and you are lifted in the air like a Looney Tunes character who smells a pie cooling on a window ledge. That intoxicating high quality leather aroma fills the air and your nose! I am not kidding, I have sat in the truck just to get my fix of that smell! The material is SO soft and comfortable. I truly love driving this truck. You sit high and comfortably in these soft seats! Both front and rear seats have been redone and look perfect. Even when I get in the truck, I kind of raise myself up a little with the steering wheel as so that I sit down into the seat instead of sliding across it. I would hate to disturb how pretty they are! This alone was an extremely expensive job costing $4,000!

-WOOD

BRAND NEW wood console redone by a company who redoes all of the extremely difficult Mercedes full wood dash boards. They stripped the old clear coat off and the old veneer and laid down a fresh burled veneer and layer upon layer of gorgeous clear coat before polishing it to a mirror shine. Stunning center console wood and gorgeous original transfer case, shifter and door wood showing only minor flaws at best: $400

-DOOR PANELS

Check out the door panels! No broken speaker grills! Hurray! A Rover first! Speaker grills are one year only for the 1995 and made out of what I believe must be porcelain and toothpicks because if you even stare at them hard they break. This is a true sign of Rover care when they are whole. The map pockets too are beautiful only having one minor excuse which is a 1/2" crack in the corner of the passenger side. It went right across so it can not propagate more and its almost entirely unnoticeable. There is a chip of about 1" on the rear plastic door handle cup lip. Very minor and hard to see. Cheap to replace if desired too.

-HEADLINER

BRAND NEW headliner looks fantastic! No sagging or flawed Rover glue to deal with anymore! $400

-CARPET

Beautiful carpet in the truck! It has been shampooed and cleaned as part of the overall detail. Check the carpet on the passenger side as it comes up the transmission tunnel - no stains from a leaking heater core! There is a little wear on the rubber heel mat and some little bits of dirt in tight corners of the sills which have proved hard to remove, but overall shape and condition negate things in which are hard to see anyway.

-DASHBOARD

Gorgeous shape dash with very little wear! Shiny surfaces with no cracks in the leatherette. The gauge cluster surround has a small crack that was repaired and though very small can be noticed since you look at the gauges often. All lights works in the dash and the HVAC! The cruise control does not work like 97% of Rover Classics, Disco and P38, but it has not been diagnosed either and could be a simple fix.

-POWER SEATS

All power seat functions work perfect! Hard to find in a Range Rover Classic! The heated seats are a known weak spot in the Rover world. Replacement of the OEM elements have only proven to lead to failures very quickly again. For that reason, they were chosen not to diagnosed or repaired and currently do not work, like 97% of all other 95 Rovers. If you wanted to fix with an aftermarket setup, they can be installed for a few hundred or so.

-POWER WINDOWS

All windows work smooth and quickly! Another rare find! The drivers side rear window makes a tiny clunk when about 1/4" from fully up, but does no hop or impede its movement.

-RADIO

The OEM radio works great and sounds good! No blown speakers or issues! Subwoofer sounds great!

-AC/HEAT

AC is arctic cold and heat is earth core hot!

-POWER MIRRORS

Power mirrors work perfectly!

-STEERING WHEEL

The leather is very nice, no tears or issues or major issues, very minor wear on the top only! It has been conditioned and feels great in your hands! It is a real rarity to find these wheels in good shape!

-CONSOLE

BRAND NEW transfer case brake boot! Check out how clean the cubby lid is! Shifter is in nice shape, no wear on window switches, cupholders in great shape, a very nice console indeed! $80

-CARGO AREA

Rear carpet is fantastic with only minor signs of use.

The Experience

There is no Rover ownership like owning a very well sorted and thought out Rover. It is just a much different experience then any other. There is a tightness, a cleanliness, and sense of what this truck was like when brand new. The clunks, rattles and normal wear for a neglected car are gone. Let alone, remember every component only has that many few miles on it or has been rebuilt or serviced. Combined with LOADS AND LOADS of preventative and scheduled maintenance it really does not get any better for a Rover or any car for that matter. Driving this Classic is fantastic. It pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce. It has all the power it had from the factory an then some, and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. An off road guy? Though this truck has never been offroaded, one trip in a Rover in the dirt will have you hooked on the famed capabilities!

So what is it like to drive this beauty? You have to start at your approach to her. Glossy, clean and detailed, she sits just at the right height: a little tall, just enough to look the part, but not so much that you need to get some extra tattoos to own her. The classic British lines mixed with a creamy, glossy rare color are inviting enough, but open that door and that burst of brand new leather comes at you, that it might as well be 1995 again. It is like climbing into a time machine! Turn the key and the V8 rumbles to life with its distinctive Rover burble and its slight tinniness too. Its a wonderful and unique combo. Close the door and it is all but quiet inside aside from your cold AC fan noise and few great sounding tunes. Press the gas and off you go for a comfy cruise. You sit high, almost with an heir of "I'm just a bit better than the commoners" position with excellent vision in all directions. Need to pass that slow car in the right lane? Give her a boot of throttle and she revs up and surges past! But you again are in a LWB Rover! So time to pick up some friends with long legs or high expectations for comfort! A 6 foot tall guest can stretch his legs out fully! But it is Rover, so maybe its more than cruise today. Perhaps its time for a little trip with those friends camping. On the graded dirt roads, it is as if you haven't left the tarmac! And when the road turns to a little bouldering or a steep climb, while others are gearing down to 4L or turning around, you just keep a nice even foot and work your way up in the cold AC in your buttery soft brand new leather with your tall friends. The legendary Rover is just a thing of beauty both on road and off.

The Wrap Up

I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is a great pre-owned and beautiful Land Rover. There are other Rover Classics, but if you do find one for sale and it has more methodical service, I urge you to buy it! Remember, Rovers take some extra care and feeding, they are not a Honda, so a Rover with 50k miles with questionable, unknown or poor service history is worth about as much as a Slurpee if you add up all the service that will need to be done to make it a reliable, beautiful, solid truck again. Don't spend big money on a truck from a "turn-em-and-burn-em" style dealer when all they do to promote the truck is say a few things they think people like to hear. As you may tell from my ad, I know the care that these trucks need and the details that make them tier 1, from a tier 2 or worse and I hope to have addressed them to those of you that know as well. If an ad says "Low miles and well cared for" Ask questions! If you don't get thorough, well addressed answers, start planning more money and more aspirin. If you were to add up all of the recent items in this truck, you would find well over $25,000 in recent retail scheduled and preventive service and restoration alone. This truck is ready to go live another 150k+++ miles of beautiful, reliable, enjoyed life in your hands. Don't buy an unserviced truck for a little less than spend multiple times as much to get it to this level of service!

Feel free to ask me any questions at all. I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible.

Standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use despite its restoration. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new car. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 167,000 mile truck that has received some great refreshing cosmetically and mechanically. This is good miles for Rover of this year, but please just remember that no 167,000 mile car is perfect. It is though a clean, very nice Rover! Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have an 3rd party mechanic service check out the car I MORE than welcome it. Please have the car checked out before bidding and not after. I am more than happy to answer every and any question you may so you know 100% what you are buying. But, please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase! All sales are final, you are buying as-is.

Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!

There are a lot of pictures below, over 150! So please take the time to scroll through all of them!
