Introduction:
Youre fall event truck is here! This 04 is actually my personal vehicle; built just the way i wanted it with tons of service and upgrades and guess what? I recently got a hold of a super rare Disco 1 thats a total donkey at the moment but ive fallen in love with it so the 04 is ready for someone else to continue the adventures with! If you've been doing your research then you know that the 2004 Disco's are argued by most as the best Land Rover every built, this example would is a proud representative of all the reasons why that sentiment is true. These sat next to the new generation of full-size Range Rovers in the show-room, and they offer a lot of their upgrades of that model as well. I have a lot to say about this truck so i encourage you to read the whole listing!
Service and Reliability:
Many of you know I race Land Rovers – as such, all of the care and insight that goes into a career spanning almost 20 years now gets poured into each and every one of my trucks to make them the best they can be.

Styling and Funtions:
If you’ve scanned ahead to the pictures, you are no doubt excited by how immaculate this truck is. Its got an impressive stance and It looks like a brand new vehicle - with the Zambezi Silver paint being deep, glossy and smooth. The two tone Jet Black/Tundra White interior is also exceptionally clean with all weather Genuine floor mats ready to take on the fould weather season.
The air conditioning is ice cold and the heat is great too. Around town this vehicle is a total head turner and with all of its recent servicing and transmission in selectable “Sport” mode, I can leave even the new full sized Range Rovers in my dust when the light turns green. The ‘03/’04 ONLY instrument cluster owes its aggressive styling to the performance and engineering accomplishments of BMW, the company which owned Land Rover from ’99 through ‘04. If you look ahead to the LR3 clusters you may just find another genetic influence...
Rounding out the sleek look of this vehicle is one of my PERSONAL favorite options: the upgraded advanced headlight assemblies. Not only do they project a beam pattern that was years ahead of its time, the lamp assembly itself includes two vertical amber side markers; a final nod to the Discovery’s heritage and evolution from the first Series Vehicles of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. It’s a really cool fusion of the original Land Rover design with the final years of the original lineage.If we are to nit-pick here "trying" to find cosmetic flaws, you will find color rade in the 12-oclock position on the steering wheel, the coin tray doesnt open, there are 2 3" cracks on the front bumper, and a hairline scratch on the RH doors: Nothing that screams doom and gloom – but there never the less. The rear of the roof has minor sun-fade. But if these are "problems" with a Land Rover Discovery, we should all be so lucky!!!
Performance and Operation:Autolocks, remote, windows, door handles, lights, seats, HVAC controls, factory stereo ALL. WORK. PERFECTLY. …and yes… cruise control works perfect, too!!! The steering is crisp, the suspension is tight, and the drivetrain has been fully serviced making it a total blast to drive.
Hit the gas and this truck powers on to the freeway with total confidence and BEGS you to push your limits. There are absolutely no shimmes, shakes, or wanderings of any kind. The cabin, even at speed, is wonderfully quiet and the Pioneer BT audio system delivers concert like quality sound – windows up or down!
There are no ticks/knocks or noises and there are no overheating or oil pressure issues. In fact, I now make it common practice to install the lower temp thermostat on all D2’s to shave off 10-15 degrees from their running temperature. D2’s typically run around 195 degrees. This t-stat is also a genuine part (designed for sub-Sahara locales) and keeps them running at 180 degrees.
There is a common sentiment that Disco’s will never have great stopping power. This truck proves that statement wrong and illustrates how great of an ABS system it is, when properly serviced. Not only that – with race inspired upgrades in hardware this truck has GREAT stopping power and with every hour put on her, the system continues to bed-in and increase in performance
On a final note, this gorgeous truck is leak free – so go ahead and put her on your nice driveway so you can always enjoy a good look at her out the front window!
This vehicles history:
I was interested in taking on this truck primarily to make it my family friendly adventure truck. Its clear that all family adventures are happening with the wifes LR3 - aka "The Bus" - so im taking on this new D1 i have to do all the crazy mods that i would like to with what will be a solo vehicle. Previoulsy female owned, it had a great service history. Despite it having been rear ended several years ago and it becoming a Salvage history truck i never really cared because i intended to do a lot worse to it off road (which it never saw). The photo included here is of the rear damage... litterally all it took to rectify was hanging a new bumper and replacing the rear door. $300 worth of "crash parts" later you would never know the difference, but i am showing you just for your own peace of mind. Its a shame that an insurance quote with new parts and dealership pricing can do that to a truck but thats the way it goes sometimes.

THE IDEA OF "NEW TO ME VS. A NEW CAR"
New cars have warranties because… new cars break! What lines the service bays of Rover dealerships around the world? I’m willing to bet a lot of you know! While I am VERY proud of each and every Rover that I hand select and hand-craft, the vast majority of them are 20+ years old. As amazing as all of them are, i wouldnt ever say any of them are "perfect." None of them are and I have only used the term museum piece ONCE – and I am well aware of the qualifiers for that monicker. These trucks, as refreshed as they are, are assemblies of new parts, used parts, remanufactured parts and ORIGINAL parts. They are all, to quote a mentor of mine: “Ships of Theseus.”
With each and every listing, i try to capture the flavor of what strikes me about each vehicle. I try to capture their essence. I try to make the description feel like a conversation between you and I, or even a phone call. Covering the general and intimate details that stand out to me. That said, we all know that while they are all Rovers, all made in the same place, each one is different.
It is not possible to discuss every nut and bolt, but I have done my best to list and discuss what would matter to ME. Let me know what matters TO YOU. Who is this truck for?
This is a tough looking, gorgeous truck that has been tastefully built with off-road capability and family function in mind. It could be the ideal 1st car, winter escape truck, beach rig, daily driver or platform for an even more extreme build. You couldnt build this truck in any decent shop for less than $10,000 and i am sure that the final bid will reflect incredible value for the buyer. I have looked at all the other 04's at the time of this posting on eBay and no other compares. Not even close. She is a blast to drive and part of me regrets even selling her but seriously... with the LR3, the race truck, and my new D1 project this truck would scream at me every day to set her free... hi and thanks for all of the interest - I would like to address a few common questions plus a type-o that exists in my final "purchasing, perspective, category"
- to that point - in the last section I say hvac works on high and low only, cruise doesn't work, and the remote doesn't work. THIS WAS AN OVERSIGHT from cutting and pasting this portion of the listing from my 1994 RRC LWB that I just sold. PLEASE NOTE THAT onmy 04- cruise control, hvac (in all speeds) and the factory remote ALL WORK PERFECT. Sorry if this was confusing.
- She comes with full 2004 owners manual, smog cert, ONE working remote key and valet key.
- How much lift is there - appx 3-4" over stock.
- no it is not necessary to regear this truck. it performs as it should built within the range of stock geometry. it does not transfer power ANY different than how it did with stock suspension and tire size. if you are planning on loading her up with armor, racks, power tanks, a fridge and 35"s or bigger then sure, regearing would help but it is not necessary as she sits right now.
