1963 Lincoln 4-Door SedanA myriad of changes were made for the 1963 Lincoln Continental. Changes were made to enlarge the available passenger room. This involved an instrument panel redesign to allow for more knee and leg room. relocating the front seat forward slightly to improve rear seat leg room. and designing a new deck lid and reconfiguring the luggage compartment to hold more luggage. The engine was now a 430 CID V-8 and gained 20 additional brake horsepower. to 320 @4600 rpm. Torque was listed at 465 lb. -ft. @ 2000 rpm. Fuel was mixed via a Carter AFB 4V. Several optional items were made standard in 1963. 1963 represented the following changes. additions. or deletions:•Standard rear door courtesy lights on Sedan•Amber front turn signal lenses•Standard six-way power seat. power vent windows. and power antenna (except early production)•Four-barrel carburetor•Revised rear deck lid•Front seat relocated forward•Revised instrument panel•New AM-FM Radio option•Six-Ply Whitewall Tire option•320 horsepower engine•Standard remote control outside rearview mirror•Single heater core and blower motor (1961-1962 cars had two of each) Ads for 1963 included tag lines such as. "Sixteen Intolerant Men". "This is the Complete Line". and "Drive A Blue Chip". all addressing the unique qualities of the Continental. The sixteen men were. of course. the inspectors at the factory charged with determining whether or not every Lincoln Continental was ready for shipment. The only acceptable score after their thorough testing was 100 percent. Anything less. and the car went back for repairs or adjustments. Day in and day out. these men spent an average of one hour in each new Lincoln. driving it over a 12-mile course. operating every accessory. When the new owner received their car. it was ready for them. Ads reminded the reader about Lincoln's quality. the 2-year/24. 00-mile warranty. etc. They were very refined. of course. and certainly left a positive impression about the benefits of Lincoln ownership. This particular Lincoln Continential sedan must surely be one of the best in existence. She has recently come out of a well maintained collection (see eBay item # for our 59 Lincoln Mark IV listing). This is a legitimate classic beauty. She really should be seen in person to appreciate her immaculate condition. Her exterior is nearly flawless. as is her interior. The color is her factory original. called Nassau Beige. aka Honey Beige. Her paintwork is excellent. with excellent panels and fit. The bright work. chrome. stainless outside and inside is nearly perfect. The upholstery is excellent. with the leather and brocade fabric on the seats. the carpets. headliner. door panels. dash and gauges appearing as new. Rubber is great. door jambs and trunk too. If any fault can be made in this regard it would be that upon closer inspection the vent window weather stripping may appear a bit rough. although it is supple. She drives and functions as great as she looks. The engine starts on the first crank and idles and powers up as quietly and smoothly as silk. with no smoke coming from the exhaust. The transmission. brakes. steering and other components function as they should. We would be confident driving this car anywhere. Power accessories. including the power vent windows. accessory lighting and so forth also function as intended. The A/C blows cold. Did we mention she wears her original CA black plates? The pictures do a much better job of portraying her condition than do words. She has a stunning presence.
