I bought this Javelin on March 24. 1982 (I was 18 years old). and have cared for her ever since. A lady originally purchased it at Davis Motors on South Broad Street in Meriden. CT. and I am the second owner (a car dealer in Rockland brought it to Maine. and I bought it off him). The mileage was around 28k when I bought it. and at 34k miles I tweaked the 304 motor a bit with a new cam. lifters. bearings. rings. planed the heads. and installed a new 4-barrel carburetor. but left most of the motor original. I used it as my daily driver for the next three years. It always ran like a charm. and the only issue I dealt with was the transmission needed to be replaced a few times (the motor was a bit much for it). Since I had transmission issues with it – when I had the opportunity I picked up two spares that will also go along with it at the sale. I got married in 1983. and the Javelins trip to our new in home 1986 was the last time it was ever on the road. She gave me over 46k miles of fun. and sits with 76. 65 miles on her. I use to start it up every year. and moved it around the driveway. but in the 90’s we built a heated garage. and that became it’s new home. and she is still there today. Over the years I have put her on blocks to give the suspension a rest. and then put it back on her wheels again. but I have not started her since I put it in the garage in the 90’s. The car is like a time capsule from the 70’s; it is still pretty much original except some engine parts. automatic transmission. the electric wipers (I had to replace the vacuum one). and the tires and rims. The wiper knob is still for the air motor (I used a toggle switch under the dash to use the electric motor). but I have an original replacement electric switch to go along with it. You can see some rust on both rear quarters – it started to show signs of it back in the 80’s. but I could not bring myself to do anything to the body. and that’s how it sits today. In the early 90’s (before we built the garage) my son hit the windshield wiper with a baseball and it cracked the windshield. but I have a replacement windshield for it. The adhesive for the headliner has let go. so you can see it hanging down some. but it is still in great shape. I worked in a grocery store when I first got the car. and carried a box cutter in my back pocket - that’s how the driver’s seat got its first rip. and once the rip started – there was no stopping it. The sun had caused some parts of the dash to curl or disconnect from it sister pieces. but has stayed in real nice shape for its age. The glass in the doors was getting loose years ago. so I removed the windows and wrapped them in a blanket and stored them in the trunk. The original owner hit something on the front passenger side. but it was not that bad. so I never fixed it. but I do have a replacement corner piece. There are plenty of door dings and chipped paint. but for 43-year-old factory paint. it is in great shape. She has four drum brakes. and they worked as great as drum brakes could. but last time sitting in the car working the brakes – the master cylinder finally let go when the brake pedal was pushed real hard. This Javelins condition is amazing for it’s age – any issues are simply from the fact that it has sat for all these years. and really needs someone to go through everything and make it ready for the road again This car is a true rare barn find. and it has been a hard decision to let it go – I have had her for 33 years! However. none of my kids are really into cars. and my wife and I have bought some land to build a smaller home on. and I just won’t have the room or time to give it the time it deserves. I pushed her out of the garage and took these pictures back in 2009. but nothing has changed since I pushed her back in that same day. The buyer is responsible for: Picking the Javelin up. and I would strongly suggest an enclosed trailer to do the job. A $500 non-refundable deposit within 2 days of the winning bid. Car is sold as-is. THE LAST PICTURE IS WHERE IT IS STORED!
