First owner purchased from new (1984) and sold to me in 2008. Similar to the first owner. I have taken great care of this wonderfully simple. yet beautiful and timeless automobile. I am selling as I purchased another classic car to maintain and have another classic MB ('85 SL) and cannot care for all three plus my daily driver. Maintenance includes oil changes every 3. 00miles (Mobil 1 5w-40 Diesel only). Brake Fluid changed annually. Transmission flushed every 25k. valve adjustments every 15k miles and hand wax treatments with clay bar twice per year with constant hand washing including quick wax sprays to keep grime off paint. Gas consumption is 25mpg with mixed driving and could be more for highway only use. No oil top ups necessary between changes. healthy alternator and cooling system with no issues in summer / excellent heat in winter. Summary of the POSITIVES:+ solid body. Looks spectacular and gets lots of appreciation from other drivers who admire classics + strong engine with no smoke on start-up or during hard acceleration. Starts in winter perfectly. Block heater also installed and can be used for peace of mind. Reliable daily driver for short or long drives (>4 hrs). It has never broken down (no overheating problem) or needed any repair during my 6 years ownership. Just routine change of fluids. brake pads and tires. + new tires. new Bosch battery. Also including 2 spare 14" bundt rims (no tires)+ Unblemished leather seats front and rear. Unbelievable care given by first owner and myself. Original MB sheep skin for front seats included with sale+ Climate control system of sophisticate flaps works perfectly. Heating and Fresh Air controls Summary of the NEGATIVES/CONCERNS:- Rust on various areas of the car. Though non in any of the critical areas of the cars structure including window frame areas. Rust treatment done to stop further deterioration of these areas- Door lock vacuum inoperable. I disabled it due to leak in the system- Older bushings which can make some creaking noise occasionally but not usually noticeable with the noise of the diesel engine! This is a safe and soundly built Mercedes model. My College age sons drive it anywhere and I never have to worry. They can't speed and the car attracts the right attention to make others more cautious. Speaking of acceleration and drivability. I would equate this MB 300D to a low HP Japanese car- 10-12 second 0 to 60mph but can cruise comfortably at 80mph or more if you dare. My eldest sons no longer live at home so I cannot bear to have this car sit idly in my home. It must be driven regularly to keep it in good shape. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
