1949 MERCURY COUPE

1949 MERCURY COUPE Original Flathead - Unrestored - Factory Overdrive Transmission This is a decent old unrestored example of a 49 Mercury coupe. It’s former owner was "Willie Glass" from Richmond. Virginia. I purchased the car a year or so ago from his estate. Glass was the land speed record holder (208 mph) for "flathead" Ford's. We have been told that he had rebuilt the engine on this car. but we have no documentation. It does have dual exhaust. but otherwise it appears to be bone stock. It runs great. We had the brakes completely overhauled. all new wheel cylinders. master cylinder. etc. The fuel system was also gone through. new fuel pump. carburetor rebuilt. etc. It has a new battery. It seems to runs really strong and it drives well. The floors. including the trunk. are original and never patched (solid no holes). The chrome is original and quite good. The issues are. the tires have good tread but are old. The interior is original and useable. but a bit tattered. The paint is okay. but was redone many years ago. We were told that Willie bought this off a used car lot. The documents inside the glove box indicate it was sold to a Mr. Walter Nielsen in Newell. Iowa on April 29th. 1949. It is missing its spare wheel and jack. SOLD with clear title. 82. 14 miles are shown on the odometer and we believe this is quite possible correct and actual miles. This car with very little work could be fun to use pretty much just the way it is. It is a good solid car that has never been apart. Even the firewall still has its original paint.
