This particular 1948 model really captures the period. The engine is correct as is the exterior and interior. The body wears all of the beautiful factory brightwork. much of it re-done and in excellent condition. The paint and body show well throughout. The interior upholstery has been restored as well in beautiful pinstripe broadcloth. The headliner is restored. Turn signals have been added and the whitewall tires were recently installed. This is just a great old car. Texas Classic Cars of Dallas' shop just removed the fuel tank. cleaned. flushed and lined the tank. flushed the fuel lines. cleaned the carburetor. and replaced the sending unit. Purchased by the current owner in Jackson City. Texas. he has owned it since 1998 and is reluctantly selling it. Please be sure to play our video and look through our detailed presentation. Be sure to visit our friends at the Flight Museum if you find yourself in Dallas. Texas. The easiest way to identify a 1947 1/2 to '48 Mercury is the trim that runs alongside the hood along either side and the Mercury nameplate. The '46 models trim runs the length of the hood with no nameplate. The bumpers have been rechromed and are just beautiful. This grill assembly is striking. These parts were also removed and re-chromed. in excellent condition. They will never build cars like these again. The Ford Flathead V8 is famous in its own right. This is a strong running 239 cubic inch V8. complete with the generator charging system & pushbutton start on the dash. The system is 6 Volt and the owner put an 8 Volt battery in the car. The 59AB heads are well known to you flathead lovers. These are the good heads. This is really a good looking engine compartment. The correct breather is also intact. The firewall shows well as do the inner fender panels and core support. Open the doors to the late 1940s. The interior features the correct pinstripe cloth upholstery front to back along with the felt type headliner. This is just a great old interior that shows well. The dash features a lot of period correct plastics. I believe bakelite is the correct terminology. Check out the Deluxe Allstar Heater. Just look at the vintage factory steering wheel. This is the Mercury man. of course. The seat upholstery shows well front to back. The factory radio is intact. with the optional tone & scale. It doesn't work. but they can be repaired. These are actually quite hard to find. then again. so is a 1948 Mercury like this. The fuel. oil pressure. temperature and charging gauges appear to be working as does the factory speedometer. For all practical purposes. the 1948 Mercury Eights were identical to the 1947s. The major changes consisted of different dial faces and no steering column lock. 50. 58 Mercury Eights were sold in 1948. The wheels of choice under this classic Mercury are the 15-inch steel wheels with hubcaps and beauty rings. fitted with L78-15 wide whitewall tires all around. The undercarriage displays the factory framework throughout and is in really good shape. Please look closely through our photos. This is not a concours car. but a great old driver.
