The 60-series Nissan Patrol is shamelessly derivative of the Toyota FJ40 and the Land Rover Series trucks. But Nissan managed to improve upon its forebears in both form and function -- it's a more interesting design. drives better and is considerably rarer than a contemporary Land Cruiser or Land Rover. This 1977 Nissan Patrol has just undergone a complete frame-off. nut-and-bolt restoration to the highest standard. Panels are very straight and paint quality is excellent; zero known bondo or rust. and both the underside and engine compartment are very nicely detailed. Bumpers. trim. lenses. glass and rubbers are like new. Steel wheels have been refinished and are wearing new. but period-correct. bias-ply all-grip tires that look fantastic. Canvas top is new and fits perfectly. The interior shows very well with seats reupholstered in correct vinyl; door panels. dash. floor covering. hardware. etc. are like new. All vents are working properly with springs and grilles in perfect condition. All gauges. switches. indicators and lights work as they should. Fold-up jump seats in the rear can fit three passengers on each side. Under the hood sits the original numbers-matching 4. 0 liter straight six engine; it's mated to a three-speed manual gearbox (and a twin-stick. two-speed transfer case). Both the engine and transmission were rebuilt during the restoration. Clutch. brakes and steering components have been replaced or restored. The truck starts easily. idles smoothly. runs great and drives like new. In short. this is very likely the nicest Nissan Patrol on the planet and presents an appealing alternative to a highly restored Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 at a similar price point.
