1961 Triumph Herald Convertible 948cc

For Sale is my 1961 Triumph Herald 948cc Convertible. This is a very rare model as the Triumph Herald 948cc Convertibles were only produced from 1960 to 1961 During this period. 8262 cars were produced. Through the Triumph-Herald website. only 59. 948cc Herald Convertible vehicles are known to still exist worldwide. This car was in storage from about 1970 to 2010. It was in dry storage. The car is original with the exception of the red paint and red door panels. I believe the exterior of the car was repainted from the Triumph "coffee" color to red around 1967-1970. Door panels were recovered also at this time. The interior of the car was not repainted and exhibits its original paint. There is no carpet in the car. The Herald 948cc Convertible had some different trim features not found on later versions. Such as: Handle on the bonnet for opening and closing. stainless steel grill surround trim. dashboard without the wood fascia. white gauges. gray knobs and steering wheel. potato chip rack under glove box door. one piece taillight chrome trim. and the 948cc engine with dual carbs. This car is an unmolested vehicle that has not been restored. cannibalized or refreshed in any way. Only repainted. This car is 99% complete and original. The only thing missing is carpet. Particulars of the car are: -1961 Triumph Herald 948cc Convertible. -47. 00 miles on odometer. It still works. the speedo needle hangs up on occasion. but the odometer always works. -Original engine that runs smooth and does not smoke. I do not believe it has ever been rebuilt. Drips oil like a Triumph does. Valve cover gasket replaced with a silicon style and valve cover repainted. Original air cleaner still on the carbs. -New points. plugs. condenser. rotor. cap and wires. -New water pump. -Converted to 12v negative ground. -Transmission shifts well. I removed the trans and inspected the clutch. The clutch was replaced in 1967 (sticker on pressure plate) and still looks brand new. Transmission tunnel updated with fiberglass version. New shifter bushings installed. -Gas tank replaced and electric fuel pump installed. -Sun visors and rear view mirror are original. intact and in excellent condition. -Dashboard is original fiberboard and is the best example of one I have ever seen. Most rot and warp due to moisture. Not this one. it does have paint peeling. but is in overall excellent condition. Ashtray and glove box door are original and not repainted. -All wheel cylinders and brakes were replaced and new rear drums installed a couple of years ago. -Electrical system functions as do the gauges. -Body is straight with no evidence of any bondo. The doors shut a bit hard and may need an adjustment. Stainless steel trim is in excellent condition. -Door openings. bottom of doors and wheel wells are rust free. -The primer on the front of the bonnet is due to the previous owner spilling something on it that bubbled the paint. It was not dented. -The heater core has a small leak and has been bypassed. -Runs and drives well. -The seats are original vinyl with a couple of tears sewn up on the drivers seat. Rear seat is near perfect. -The floorboards are solid with little surface rust. The drivers side front has a small repair and a couple of pin holes that were hard to photograph. The rest of the floors are excellent. -The convertible top is in excellent condition but has shrunk and fits tight. It will need to be replaced at some point. -Glass is in great shape with no cracks or fogging of the windshield. -The trunk is solid with one small repair. Tire well is solid. -The underside of the car shows some surface rust. but is in excellent condition for any original car that is 54 years old. -The rear muffler and exhaust pipe was replaced with an NOS part. The center resonator has been removed and a piece of flex pipe installed. Front pipe is excellent. -Tires are in great shape. Rims have been repainted. -New repro hubcaps. -No critters or rodents took up residence inside the car during storage. No mice. No raccoons. Smells like an old Triumph should. -While the paint is shiny. there are plenty of scratches. This car is not perfect and will not break any speed records. It is is a local driver and not a show car. Runs. drives and stops well. Never overheats or gets hot. The car is currently registered and insured. Clean title in my name. Drive or restore. your choice. This 948cc Herald Convertible is a bit of history that you rarely see. It will be the only one at a British car show. Selling due to other Triumph projects that I need to be working on.
