My favorite part of this car is EVERYTHING... meaning... everything matches. I would call this vehicle a #2 car only because it has the original interior in it and has a very nice period correct paint job, hat is older, ut extremely nice. Just like this vehicle would have looked from the factory. As a Survivor with a paint job and light restoration, his car would be a #1 car.
The Original Owner from 1954 to 1999 was Robert &Sandra Maynes – San Diego California Mr. Maynes was 28 (us marine) at the time he bought the car. -john amberg trust San Diego California -Steller’s family San Diego California This vehicle has always been adorned by all three of its owners; all three being avid Packard Collectors. The “lightly” restored car was near pristine in all areas and only needed some brightening to keep it in show condition.

Body & Paint

My specialty over the last fifteen years has been restoring classic cars, ostly as a hobby and for my own collection. I consider myself an expert in the field of automotive “forensics” and am very interested in original or survivor type of cars. The body is one of the main components for a survivor car, ither to keep original or to restore. The Body on this vehicle is simply PRISTINE, o defects and absolutely perfectly straight. Every body panel on this 54 Packard came with it from the factory... beyond question. It is one of the most straight original low mileage cars I have ever examined. The original sheet metal is simply perfect. It is my belief that this car has never been “tapped” in its life. I do not think it is ever had as much as a ding in it. The doors, ood and trunk gaps are all factory perfect. You could take a feeler gauge to this machine and measure the quality that Packard had back in the early 50’s. The quality of these cars will notably go down as the high water mark in American Automotive history. The paint was done in 1989 and was stripped to bare metal from what I can tell. The door jams were done but the trunk area was left completely original. The paint is very period looking, s though you are looking at the original paint. On first inspection I really thought the paint was original, ut the owner knew it was repainted and in a couple of small areas I see only micron amounts of overspray on the New weather stripping, hich is in very good and supple
Condition. The car displays that almost semi-gloss sheen that harkens back to the lacquer and enamel era. It just had a look that is hard to describe, ut I know it as soon as I see it. The modern Two-Stage paints just does not have the proper look to me, aybe because that is the era I grew up in and I remember exactly what the paint looked like. Also, y expertise is survivors and have had many a 50’s car with the original paint over the last 60 years. The paint on this car is very nice and could be taken to a higher level of mirror-like finish if color sanded and buffed up. It is high quality paint and there is a lot there. There are some small specks of rust from the paint that would surely disappear if you wanted them to. I doubt that even a buffer has ever hit this thing since 1950. I would be willing to guess that this car came right out of the spray both and has literally never seen anything but a little water and some occasional wax. It looks fabulous... but again, ould look even better if that is what you like. Personally, wouldn’t touch it!!! The Chrome and Stainless trim is all original and in gorgeous condition. It is all a 9 to 9+ out of 10. The Stainless has zero dings in it. The Emblems are all original and fantastic. Reproduction emblems just do not have the heavier consistent chrome look of the original; they look tinny and cheap. Glass looks to be all original to me and is in wonderful condition. I took pictures of all the glass with the original stamping on each piece. If I were going to do anything to the car I might detail out the trunk to match the rich quality of the rest of the car. Actually I wouldn’t, ecause I like it just like it is... and I rarely show a car. Check out the pictures for yourself. I happen to LOVE the patina in the trunk.
INTERIOR When I first viewed the Interior I thought it had been completely replaced in original type factory materials. The interior is 100% original and absolutely 9.5 out of 10. The three-tone combination wool broadcloth seats are beautiful, s is the Headliner, he Door Panels Perfect is a word I don’t like to throw around lightly, ut I would call this interior “perfect”, nd for a survivor perfect isn’t good enough. Check out the original lettering in the glass on the Vanity Mirrors on the Visors... beyond cool. All the Chrome is in like new condition. The seats are firm and comfortable. The Carpet is 8.7 out of 10 and has some minor wear. There is a brand new carpet set with floor insulation kit in the trunk that comes with the car if for some odd reason you would ever want to replace the wonderful original carpeting. Make sure you check out the pristine condition of the wiring under the dash board. This car sat in a garage with the windows up and a cover over probably most of its life.
Mechanical Engine/Transmission was rebuilt on the original engine and transmission in late1989, ompleted the engine restore. This is the ORIGINAL DRIVETRAIN that came from Kansas with the car. The car runs smooth and powerful with the addition of a wonderful tone emanating from the complete new exhaust system. Additionally the car drives straight down the road as the new front end and suspension components lend the car that new car ride and feel. The ride quality is amazing, t simply floats down the road like only these big early 50‘s Packard cars do. You will not find fault with this car mechanically in any way. The original wheels and hubcaps adorn the four corners along with a brand new set of Coker Classic White Wall Tires.
Undercarriage The undercarriage is tidy, lean and rust free. When the engine and engine bay was restored it was cleaned and some pieces were repainted. The car has only been driven about 1000 miles since so the underside is in great shape. The floor pans and trunk area are all original and totally rust free. This is a very nice #2 or #2+ Show/Driver type of car for a mostly Survivor Example. The original owner loved to show this car during the 70’s and 80’s and basically it has only come up to a higher show level since then.
