Looking for a big & unique Convertible for top down cruising? Spring is just around the corner.
It doesn't get much better than this 1964 Mercury Montery in Bittersweet with a 390 and factory 4 speed. I talked to the previous owner and the widow of the owner before that. Both said they hardly ever drove the car and kept it in the garage. There have only been 2 owners from the 70s until 2015. The odometer says 47k and I think that is actual miles. I have a receipt from 1980 that shows the mileage at 42,186. The previous owner had the car repainted. Before that it still wore its factory original finish. When the car was repainted all of the jambs were left alone. The trunk and all of the door jamb areas are still factory paint. The front seat was redone and the carpet replaced. All other interior is original and unrestored.
The car runs and drives nice. I put a Pertronix IgnitorII electronic ignition conversion in the distributor. All interior lights, auges and switches work. Heater works good on all speeds and puts out nice heat. The power top goes up and down like it should. There are no rips or tears in the material and the clear plastic back window is nice. All windows roll up and down very smoothly. The doors open and close like you would expect a 47k mile car to. When driving the feels very solid and rattle free. All exterior lights and signals work except the back up lamps. The car is an amazing survivor. The original wheel coversare on a brand new set of 4 whitewalls.
Sometimes the car smokes when it is started. There's no real pattern. One time when I first drove car, he shift linkage hung between gears whenI went from Rev to 1st or vice versa. Since then I take just a little care when going into out of Rev. It's never done it since. The emergency brake release handle hangs too low. A tire kicker wanted to put the top down when it was too cold to be doing so. Now there is about 2"area where the back window zipper is loose. No material is torn. It's just the threads that have pulled loose. I was just going to wait for nicer and warmer weather to get it repaired. That's all of the little flaws and idiosyncrasies I know of.Overall this is an amazingly well cared for and original car. The unique color and mega rare 4 speed really set this car apart from the rest of the crowd.
If you have other questions I would be glad to talk to you on the phone like in the "Old Days". I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the car, y business, r buying a car online. Text or email is just fine as well. My number is 573-230-6222. Please try to keep the phone calls 8am to 8pm central. I am located in Jefferson City MO with an excellent location for trucks/trailers/loading.
Note: the steering wheel center is missing. I have a correct 64 Mercurysteering wheel that goes with the car.
