1959 Triumph TR3 Roadster Beautiful Frame Off Restoration

This beautiful 1959 Triumph TR3A calls the Golden State her home. The English roadster is stunning in her original color combination of Primrose Yellow body and black vinyl interior. You will turn heads as you drive down the road; a remembrance of the legacy this car started. Cruising down Main Street in this is like a trip back to 1959. Despite being nearly 58 years old. the TR3A is often seen in Vintage and Production racing today and is still competitive in the E-Production class of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). History: After the Second World War. Triumph was taken over by the Standard Motor Company. Sir John Black of Standard wanted to build cars that would rival Jaguar. something that didn’t go down at all well with Jaguar. as Standard was supplying the company with engines. Initially. cars were produced under both the Standard–Triumph and Standard names. The Triumph name was being used on sports cars. whereas the Standard name was used for saloon car building. In September 1957. after 13. 77 Triumph TR3’s had been sold worldwide. the car was updated. Although referred to as the Triumph TR3A. this was never an official title of the second generation TR3. The Triumph TR3A was mechanically identical to the TR3. but recognizable as the later edition by its stunning full–width radiator grill that incorporated the sidelights. The TR3A also had external door and boot handles added. The TR3A was produced between 1955 and 1962 with a production of 58. 36 examples. This makes it the third best-selling TR after the TR6 and TR7. The TR3A was so successful that the original panel molds eventually wore out and had to be replaced. It is estimated that only 9. 00 survive in the world today. The original tachometer. and speedometer are still in excellent cosmetic condition and work. The Bakelite steering wheel is amazing with no cracks or breaks. It includes optional seat belts and the optional occasional rear seat. The interior of this car screams original! Engine: The TR3A is powered by a 1991 cc straight-4 OHC engine with two large SU-H6 carburetors. Both carburetors were recently rebuilt. It starts instantly and purrs like a kitten with no issues with getting hot. pinging. etc. It accelerates smoothly with no hesitation. Transmission: The factory four speed manual gearbox functions well. The clutch engages smoothly with no slipping. grinding. or grabbing. Rear End: The rear end is the original unit and works fantastic. Suspension: Factory front suspension: Independent by unequal-length double wishbones. coil springs and telescopic dampers. Rear: Live axle. half-elliptic springs. and lever arm dampers. You can really feel thee road in this Roadster. Exhaust: The exhaust is factory style. It is in excellent condition and exits through the rear as original. It has a crisp sound that is pleasing to the ear and not too loud. Undercarriage: The underside of this car is exactly what you would expect of a garage kept car. The chassis and suspension components are in good condition with no pitting or damage as shown. The car has been used sparingly on sunny days and the underside has some dust on it but is very clean overall. Wheels/Tires: The tires are brand new in January 2015 and the wheels are in good shape. The original hubcaps look great with very nice original enameled emblems.
