Description

Highly modified 1980 Toyota Celica ST coupe. It has a clean, straight body, rust free from the Pacific Northwest, though there is some minor cracking in the paint in a few small spots that will need to be touched up. The paint is a pearl white that likely cost quite a bit of $$$ when it was done. Vehicle appears to be yellow from the factory. We've done our best to show the worst of the paint flaws in the pictures. We received a quote of $400 to perform the necessary touch-up work, though we'll leave it to the purchaser to have the work done, as they may demand a higher quality level than the $400 special. The interior has racing buckets and harnesses with a quick release momo corsa racing steering wheel.

What really sets this Celica apart is what resides under the hood. The engine has a 22r block mated to a 20r cylinder head with a turbonetics turbocharger plumbed to the exhaust. Fuel is multi-port injected and controlled by a Motek M4 computer. Igntion is also handled electronically featuring a Motek ignition expander. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a smooth shifting 5-speed transmission. Huge racing radiator takes care of cooling duties. High performance fuel pump set up in the trunk, and the battery was relocated there a well. Tires and wheels are literally brand new. Probably tons of other goodies went in to this build that we don't know about. All performance work was done by an import performance shop on the West Coast and included a full rebuild of the engine and new clutch. Somebody put tens of thousands of dollars in to this ride to get it where it is.

When we purchased this Celica, we brought it in from the west coast knowing that it was blowing smoke out the tailpipe. It ran strongly and idled and pulled well, but had an obvious oil consiumption issue. We figured somebody had gone a little too hard with it and burned a valve or that the turbo needed rebuilt. We took the turbo off and found that it appears to be in very nice shape. The next step was to remove the head, and it was apparent that it had an oil leak at the head gasket. We went ahead and had the head pressure tested, cleaned and resurfaced. We installed a new head gasket, water pump, valve stem seals and anything else along the way that looked like it needed to be redone. Unfortunately, our (now prior) shop mechanic found a way to mis-assemble something, because it just no longer runs well. As you can tell by this ad, we are definitely not experts in JDM, tuner cars, sport compacts, or anything like that. It starts quickly but runs very unevenly as if there may be a large vacuum leak or if the ignition timing is off. It will drive down the road and will easily get on to a trailer, but it really needs an owner who knows this kind of machine who can fix what was done incorrectly and unlcok this beast's full potential. Everything is there and seems to be in very good shape to have an incredibly unique ride for Hot Import Nights, to drift, or to take to your local car show. Like I said, somebody put a ton of money in to this thing, and it has great potential.

Absolutely a steal for the right person who can get it to run right. Do us a favor and buy this at what will be a huge loss for us so we can get back to working on the simple Jeeps and old 70's boats that we know and understand.

Please call or email with any questions - we'll do our best to answer honestly and are happy to set up a time to show the car. We have sold many vehicles to satisfied customers all across the country. We're happy to arrange for discounted shipping anywhere in the US (at buyers expense, of course), or are happy to help load on to a trailer. While it will drive around town, I would absolutely not plan on driving this vehicle long distances at this point. This is a No Reserve Auction. Please note that mileage is unknown and is not accurate as listed above.
