In 1971 total Mercury Cougar production numbers amounted to 62,864 vehicles, stark contrast to 1967 numbers of 150,893. Only 1,717 of the 62,864 manufactured would earn XR-7 convertible status. Of the 1,717 that became XR-7 convertibles, ONLY 22 were produced with this paint code (Black, Ford #1724-A) and trim package.
