1963 JAGUAR E-TYPE 3.8 LITER SERIES ONE FIXED HEAD COUPE. ORIGINAL OPALESCENT GOLDEN SAND WITH LIGHT BEIGE TRIM. 4-SPEED. CHROME WIRE WHEELS. JDHT CERTIFICATE. EXCELLENT, FRESHLY PAINTED BODYSHELL, READY FOR STRAIGHTFORWARD ASSEMBLY.
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this excellent 3.8 Liter E-type Coupe recently finished in it's original color of Opalescent Golden Sand, a fantastic light metallic beige.
I purchased this car about 2 years ago from an Idaho Jaguar restoration shop mostly complete, but without an engine. About 6 months later I stripped it down to perform a total, ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration to the highest standards. Life has changed, and I realize there isn't any spare time for me to complete this restoration. I'm offering it as is, needing completion.
The car's bare monocoque, doors, hatchlid, and 4-piece front subframe set were shotblasted to bare metal. The original bonnet had some issues,so I purchased a brand new NOS "Abbey Panels" unit ($10,000) that was shipped here to the U.S. years ago in it's original wooden crate! This assembled bonnet was finished in it's factory black primer. I sent out the complete body to a Jaguar E-type metal, body and paint specialist. The original dipped floor sections were a little bit beaten up (as most E-types are) so they were replaced. The new bonnet was fitted up to the car along with other chrome items such as the bumper set and taillights. The car was put into primer, repeatedly primed and block-sanded.
The car has just returned from my painter after about 18 months. As you can see by the photos, the results are exceptional. The car's gaps are per factory. Each coat of primer was allowed to completely dry and air out before being sanded. The car is finished in an accurate paint code of Opalescent Golden Sand, basecoat/clearcoat system, colorsanded, buffed, and polished.($23,500).Recently, the front subframe set has been fitted to the car with a new nut and bolt mounting hardware kit. The bonnet and doors have been installed for visual/shipping purposes.
The car's remaining components need restoration, but this is the perfect project, especially for the home restorer. The most expensive and most difficult part of the restoration has been painstakingly completed, allowing the next owner to restore and fit items at his own pace...
The car is sold with a set of (5) new 15x6 Dayton stainless wire wheels, a $2125 value and a complete, new stainless Bell exhaust system, $850. The current driveline sold with the car is a 1968 E-type 4.2 liter unit (pictured, # 7R 1896-9) with an original and correct Moss 4-speed gearbox ( # EB 10731 JS). Also provided is a new Solex triple carb set-up with manifold and air cleaners for the 4.2 engine ($2000-2500).
The car is very complete with all of it's original items except for the following :
Fuel tank, windshield with (2) side post chrome, LH "sugar scoop", headlamp glass covers and rims, seats, center console, radio console, rear chrome screen insert. There are several boxes containing all of the interior fittings, gauges, dashboard components, engine bay components, steering parts, brakes, all of the old original beige interior, chrome fittings, etc. The car was disassembled and all items were carefully boxed and kept together.
All inspections for the car and parts are welcome, and I'm sure one would be impressed about the completeness of this car...Overall, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a highly desirable and prized 3.8 Liter E-type Coupe on it's way to an exceptional and worthwhile restoration. Much time, money, and effort has been spent so far. This car is sold with it's original data plate in good condition, JDHT certificate, lifting jack and handle, and all of the components pictured here.
