1975 Jeep CJ-5 4.2L Frame-Off Restoration
Completely Rebuilt 4.2L In-Line Six, Dana 44, Dana 30, T-14, Dana 20
Best foundation for classic Jeep you will find!!!!
Very close to road/trail ready!
Unfortunately life has changed to the point where I can longer hold onto my 1975 CJ5 and need to sell it. Between having my first baby on the way and preparing to start an intense military training school, my long time project has to go.
This is an “intermediate” year CJ-5. It has what I would considered the most durable drivetrain of all the CJ5s and a classic jeep look. The combo of the T-14 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer Case, and a Dana 30 front and 44 rear axles make this drivetrain virtually indestructible. Most of the work has been performed by myself, with the exception of the motor and some painting. I put a ton of work and pain staking detail into this jeep. I will never get close to what I have put in it, but that is the risk you take with a project vehicle. I can assure you that any modification, rebuild, repair, or upgrade done to this vehicle was done properly with premium parts.
I have a clean Louisiana title for the Jeep. Can be picked up or message me for a delivery quote. Shipping can also be arrange. The jeep will start up and run, but since the gas tank is not plumbed, it won’t stay running for long. Jeep is currently located in Columbus, MS. See pictures for more information and please don’t hesitate to message with questions. If you message your phone number and a time to call, I will be happy to discuss the Jeep with you.
Shipping will be pickup in Columbus MS. I may be able to deliver or meet half way, just message me to set this up.

Please see the last picture in the gallery before you assume parts and pieces are missing. While I can'tguaranteeevery last thing is there, I can say that every part I have taken off is in that foot locker or in thebox. The box is full of brand new lenses, gauges, the other original rear lamp housing and many extras. The carb is currently in the foot locker. I move around a lot (military) so that's why parts are being stored in boxes and lockers. If you want to inquire about a specific item, just shoot me a message.
Not pictured but have:
- Factory roll bar
- Factory fender flares
- Gas tank
- Rear cross member with stiffening insert
- Bikini top
Engine – AMC Straight 6 4.2L (258)Complete Rebuild
Completely torn down and rebuilt. Bored .080 to clean up cylinder walls, all new pistons, rings, bearings, etc. Full rebuild done by an engine shop in Bossier City, LA. Has a new Weber 32/36 with required pressure regulator. Factory mechanical fuel pump is installed. Ignition system has been converted to an HEI Chevrolet style distributor. I have an electric fan out of a Ford Taurus that I had planned to install, but never got to it. Also has a flex-a-lite mechanical fan that fits the front pulley. Long tube header on the exhaust side, but exhaust system is incomplete after that. EGR delete plate installed on intake manifold.
Engine was test fired and ran for approx 10 minutes. Was then shut down and storage oil put in cylinders. Intake and exhaust ports have been sealed with duct tape.
Transmission – T14Rebuilt (currently installed)
Rebuilt with new bearings, synchros, and seals all around. All gears were inspected and are in good condition.
Transfer Case – Dana 20Rebuilt (NOT currently installed)
Rebuilt using Novak Adapters master kit which includes special hardened intermediate shaft, O-rings, thrust washers, bearings and snap ring. New seals all around.
Also included is a twin stick shifter from Novak, it is brand new in the package and obviously not installed.
Steering Upgraded/Rebuilt/New
Power steering added to vehicle, pump and brackets installed with power steering gear. All new ball joints, tie rods, pitman, drag link, and idler joints. All parts are moog. Factory steering shaft is in rough shape, usable, but will need a bearing in the column. Needs a few parts to finish up the power steering conversion, mainly pitman arm and adapter to column.
Suspensions Brand New
New Black Diamond leaf springs with 3” lift. New hardware and heavy duty shackles installed.
No shocks currently in vehicle. Shackles were coated with gun finishing solution. Gives them a very durable matte black finish.
Frame Sand Blasted & Painted
Completely stripped down and sand blasted. Inspected for cracks/rust and welded small crack in front cross member. There are welds that were performed by the previous owner, but everything looks great. Then painted using Eastwood Epoxy Primer and top coated using Eastwood 2K Ceramic Chassis Black Kit. All hardware is new and Grade 5 or higher. Transmission cross member and skid plate were sandblasted and powder coated black, installed with all Grade 8 hardware. New rear cross member purchased and painted same as the frame.
Front Axle – Dana 30 Complete Rebuild/Upgraded to Locker/Disk Brakes/Warn Hubs
Completely stripped, cleaned, and painted with the same epoxy primer and 2K Ceramic Chassis Black as the frame. Fresh 4.27 gears with all new bearings, races, seals, etc. Lock-Right Locker, new heavy duty yoke, warn hubs with new seals. Axle shafts has speedi-sleeves installed and new seals. The factory drum brakes have been swapped out for Chevrolet Disk brakes, has brand new disks, calipers, and pads. Swap was done using heavy duty caliper bracket with built in dust shield, not a thin sheet metal dust shield, but a heavy duty steel bracket and dust shield in one.
Rear Axle – Dana 44 Complete Rebuild/Upgraded to Yukon Locker
Completely stripped, cleaned, and painted with the same epoxy primer and 2K Ceramic Chassis Black as the frame. Complete rebuild with new 4.27 gears and new Yukon Locker model # YGLD44-4-30. Axle shafts were sleeved and new seals installed all around. The gears and installed kit are Spicer and were setup with pain staking detail to ensure reliability and longevity. Brakes are factory drum brakes with new cylinders, springs, and hardware. New emergency brake cables are also installed.
Driveshafts - Factory with new U joints
Body – Currently on rotisserie, can be mounted to body for pickup/shipping is desired.
The body was the last major step before I could get this vehicle on the road. The body is currently on the frame so I could move it a few months ago. I have a rotisserie and can mount the body back on it, if desired. As you can see in the pictures, there are some rusted spots that need attention. Overall, the body is very solid and a great candidate for panel replacement/repair.
I have new floor panels, rear valance and front body mount supports panels from classic enterprises. These will be included.
Also included is a replacement windshield frame (no glass). Original is included too, so you can steal the wipers motor and parts.
Interior
The dash is solid and in good shape. I bought new gauges and were working when they were pulled to allow for body work. The wiring harness is in great shape, along with the fuse panel. Do not have any seats or seat brackets.
Wheels/Tires – New/Tread remaining
Brand new black bullet hole wheels with 33 x 12.50 tires. Tires are pretty worn, but have some tread life left. New black powder coated lugs nuts. Also have a wheel for a spare tire, but no tire mounted on it.
