This unique Shelby Cobra 289 Slabside is one of 50 continuation cars built in 2012, all finished in Black over Red, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original 1962 Slabside 289 roadster. This car is powered by a fire breathing, 450 hp, all aluminum, 347 cubic inch Shelby crate motor with serial number CSX8959 which matches the chassis number of the car.
The transmission is a 5-speed Tremec. The differential is a 3.54:1 geared Salisbury limited-slip unit, the same used in the original cars. The frame tube diameter and leaf sprung suspension are identical, with minor detail differences, to what was used in the early cars as well. The braking & cooling systems are upgraded by Shelby to cope with the increased power of the current engines. The exterior is outfitted with period correct 15 inch chromed 72-spoke wire wheels and full street bumpers. $ 5,000 limited edition Shelby Cobra watch included.
