Both Ion 2 and Ion 3 models have a standard 145-horsepower. 2. 2L "Ecotec" engine; a 175-horsepower. 2. 4L Ecotec four-cylinder. with variable valve timing (VVT). is optional. Both engines have counter-rotating balance shafts and direct accessory mounting for smooth operation. With either engine. a five-speed manual transmission is standard and a four-speed automatic is optional. At the top of the Ion range is the high-performance Red Line model. It brings a 2. 0L supercharged four-cylinder engine making 205 horsepower. along with a heavy-duty five-speed manual gearbox. short-throw shifter. a limited-slip differential. 17-inch gunmetal-finish forged wheels with Z-rated tires. projector-beam fog lamps. equal-length drive shafts. and a lowered sport suspension.
