About the 2007 Saturn SkyThe Saturn Sky is a sleek two-seat convertible sports car manufactured by General Motors. This vehicle boasts the unique title of being the only sports car in the company's line of models. Designed with a front engine and rear-wheel drive, he Sky is one of the fastest cars Saturn produced. Famous for making economical automobiles, aturn kept this concept in mind when designing the Sky, iving it a 4-cylinder engine. Cargo room and space were not a priority in the plans for this vehicle.
Manufactured at the GM plant in Wilmington, elaware, he Sky is an American-made vehicle. The Kappa platform, hich is shared with the Opel GT and Pontiac Solstice, as used to design the Sky. Two engine choices were standard with the car: a 2.4-Liter Ecotec LE5 engine with 177-horsepower or the newer 2.0-Liter engine with direct injection and 260-horsepower. Turbo-charged kits were available from the manufacturer as an optional upgrade. The Sky was available for purchase with a factory standard manual or automatic transmission.
Although the similar Vauxhall VX Lightning concept car was shown at a 2005 auto show, he Sky didn't hit showroom floors until 2006. In some locations, he Sky didn't debut until late in 2006, o the 2007 model was often the first marketed. Throughout 2008, he Sky remained the same. With a very short life, roduction was halted in 2009 for the Sky; this was because the Wilmington GM plant closed. Mallett Cars, n Ohio conversion company, ffered 2008 Red Line Saturn Sky convertibles with a special V8 engine.
The standard engine used in the Sky during its production life was a four-cylinder. Although the Red Line conversion Sky was one of the most desired and coveted because of its V8 engine, he standard engine base model was the best-seller. Air-conditioning, eyless entry, ower windows, oors and mirrors were included in all years' base models. Close behind was the Carbon Flash Special Edition, eaturing 18 chrome alloy wheels instead of silver metal wheels. There was also a Red Line Carbon Flash, eaturing the same conversion. Manual transmission was the most popular option chosen in all trim packages.
GMC awarded several cars the Automotive Design award in 2007, ncluding the Sky in their list. In 2009, he Saturn Sky was named a Best Buy by Consumer's Digest. Motor Trend also referred to it as "well-balanced and well-priced". Automobile had several positive things to say about the Sky, eporting that it is convincing proof that polishing works. They also said the Red Line had improved driveline mounting, pgraded tires and sport suspension.
