Description

A 1974 Porsche 911 Coupe. now for auction on eBay! Early Edition: 1974 Porsche 911 2. 7 Sunroof Coupe! Porsche's air-cooled Nine-Eleven model needs no lengthy introduction. A timeless automobile. beautiful to behold. it's easily the most recognized sports car design on the planet. At a time when a 1973 middle-of-the-road 911 Sunroof Coupe might cost you 70 large ones. owning a '74 model that was built just a few months later for half the money seems like a fantastic opportunity. VIN*9114101262*. is one of the earliest '74s you'll ever find. The three-owner car was sold new to a Gentleman from Porterville and subsequently lived in the Central California communities of Exeter and Chico. What you ideally want to find is the original felt trunk liner. tire jack. and tool kit. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Stripped of its clothes. a spankin' clean trunk area awaits. Original space saver spare has never been used. Click on any of the above images for a full-size view The correct battery was manufactured in July of 2014 and sits on a perfectly clean and unmolested tray. No acid damage here! Most important. however. is the healthy nose section. free of rust and damage. Deep down under everything looks virginal. just like you'd expect it from a California car that rarely has seen a drop of rain and never any road salt. In 1974. the factory did not use the corrosion-inhibiting zinc-plating process (it was finally introduced with the '76 model). so extra scrutiny on these early 911s is a must! This fine example passes close inspection with flying colors. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The red beauty's sexy body is arrow straight. with perfectly even door and hood gaps. Brightwork. glass. and weatherstripping all remain in very good to excellent condition. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) 6 x 15" Fuchs-style alloy wheels complete the classic look and are shod with Cooper G/T radials of the size 205/60-15 on all corners. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Classic Guards Red finish. an older. engine-out repaint. had held up remarkably well. with very few blems and no dings. dents or scratches worth noting. Check out the pop-out rear quarter windows. a very nice option that was abandoned by Porsche bean counters just a couple of years later. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Inside the cockpit. the iconic Porsche dash has not changed much from its original design over the years. You simply can't improve upon perfection. The large. white-on-black VDO gauges with orange pointers look like new. The unique steering wheel is the original. factory-installed unit. All lights. gauges. and switches work perfectly. even the door buzzer. Just the VDO clock shows the correct time only twice a day. Radio was updated to an Alpine in-dash unit with CD player. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Cognac-colored interior exudes class and looks almost new. Front seats look quite stunning. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Rear seats have seen very little -- if any -- use. Perforated white headliner is in flawless condition. as is the rear shelf. By the way. we've just installed new weatherstripping on the rear quarter windows. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Narrow rear bumper guards were a hallmark of the 1974 911s. Just a year later. in 1975. the factory adopted the ungainly wide rubber buffers that "graced" every U. S. -delivery 911 until 1989. Also note the correct. anodized aluminum grille on the engine lid featuring the small "2. 7" emblem -- just a couple of years on the cars had to make do with an unadorned. black plastic grille. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Engine bay looks toothbrush clean. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The 2. 7 on the '74 does not yet feature the dreaded "thermal reactors" that caused so much trouble from 1975-on. It's the last 911 with an uncluttered engine bay. Our car had the valve seals replaced and the hydraulic chain tensioner update performed for additional peace of mind. The engine runs very strong. indeed. without untoward smoke or weird noises. just beautiful mechanical music flowing from the exhaust tip. Let's drive! April 9. the day we took these pictures. was another perfect spring day here in San Buenaventura. and we headed for the Ventura Hills neighborhood. the Porsche never missing a beat. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) This 911 starts easily and idles smoothly in any weather. thanks mainly to the fabulous BOSCH C. I. S. Jetronic fuel injection. Rev it up a little. and it sounds ferocious. The Type 915 five-speed manual transmission is easy to shift. and the car accelerates effortlessly through the gears. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Spending some time behind the wheel of this 911 feels like a most pleasurable vacation from the digitized. virtual realities of the 21st Century. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) The car is lithe. nimble. quite powerful. and sounds ferocious. Handling and braking capabilities are immense. as the chassis was engineered to handle even the contemporary Carrera's 237 horsepower with ease. The car feels utterly safe at all legal -- and most illegal -- highway speeds. No wonder. really. as no other car maker in the world can boast of a more successful racing history. Click on the above image for an XXL-sized view (a separate browser window will open) Here's a unique opportunity to acquire a classic Porsche 911 that drives every bit as good as it looks.
