I am proud to offer this beautiful 1962 Buick Skylark Special Convertible. Only 8500 total production number of these beautiful cars were produced and it can be can be safely assumed that less than half of these cars still exist. This car features the first v6 engine to be produced by an American car manufacturer. The Fire Ball V6 -was introduced in 1961 for the 1962 model year and was a huge success. The name was later changed to the 3800 and The Dauntless. It was installed in Buick, hevrolet, ontiac, ldsmobile, and Rover and Holden up until the year 2008 with over 25 million engines produced. It has ranked in multiple top ten best engines ever!
In a time when American cars were getting bigger and bigger the Buick styling engineers came up with a beautiful and sporty compact size with styling that commands attention, uch more exciting than a drab Falcon or Nova. This car featured styling that was ahead of its time.
The elegance of this car is presented to you in a classic alpine white paint and ox blood red interior. The car is all original, nmolested and numbers matching. The under hood and undercarriage are just as clean as the outside. The paint was redone in original color about 15 years ago and the engine was done about the same time. This car is always garaged and rarely driven except for a few car shows, here it almost always trophies. It's really fun to see how excited people get when they see this car because it is so rare.
The engine runs great! It always starts, as no blow-by and does not leak or smoke. The carburetor was just rebuilt and the distributor has been internally upgraded to electronic ignition so there are no points to deal with. The brakes work great and the car steers great, t is manual steering but the car is so light you can't even tell. The car is equipped with a manual -3 on the tree- 3 speed transmission, hich I consider to be a novelty of itself. The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch is light and forgiving, very easy manual transmission to operate. The car is such a joy to drive!
The interior is all original and is in good condition. I had to remove the driver's side sun visor to repair the hinge, t is included with the car. There is a little fading on the carpet and the cardboard in the door panel is slightly warped but otherwise it is clean, omfortable and has seat belts. All the gauges and lights work. The doors open and close like new. The original manual convertible top has a few small tears due to dryness and the age of it but still works fine, f a shower sneaks up on you. I almost never have it up because I live in California!!There are a few bubbles in the paint but no dents. The car is super straight and there is no rust in the floor boards. The paint is beautiful with no orange peel. The paint is as smooth as a baby's butt and is always waxed. I have included a few picture to show the straightness of the body and a few pictures of the paint on an overcast day so you can see the clarity and reflection in the paint. The tires are in great condition and the car rides like a cadillac due to it's all coil spring suspension.
This stunning and rare example of the 1962 Buick Special Convertible with the historic Fire Ball V6 is not easy to find and would make a great start or addition to your collection of classic and unique cars.Don't let this wonderful piece of American history slip away, his car is being offered with . . .
