Description

1978 MGB VIN: GHN5UJ460746 Remember how much you cared for your first real girlfriend back in junior high? When I was in the ninth grade. mine had the coolest Dad in the whole world! He worked as a regional British Leyland rep here in western Washington and they had an MGB much like this car. He even let me drive it around the block several times alone – something my father wouldn’t EVER let a 15 year-old get away with! Over the years I’ve owned many vintage British drop tops and this has been one of the most fun to come my way in a long. long time. I recently acquired it from a fellow MG lover downsizing his multiple fleet. It was a fun afternoon spent visiting with him and seeing the care taken restoring his other cars as well. If you’re in the market for a great driving. well-kept. vintage daily driver please give this “B” your kind attention. You’re also welcome to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay listing. My name is Mark Thompson and I can be reached at 206/914-1173 CONDITION: The photos really tell the MG’s story. In the spring of 1978. nbsp;it sold locally here in Seattle and has been in the snow and salt-free Puget Sound region ever since. I take pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly. here is a list of the good and also small things possibly needing attention: Even when cold. with virtually one turn of the key. the peppy 1800cc four cylinder fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal. Of all the improvements one can do to an MGB of this vintage. changing–out the dangerous factory Stromberg carburetor for a modern Weber model is at the top of the list. Stromberg’s leaked fuel down onto the exhaust manifold and many post-1975 cars met a fiery death from them! A proper conversion was done here several years ago and. in addition to the Weber carb and intake manifold. a very nice cast aluminum valve cover adds to the classic look. Top all that off with the ignition’s conversion to a Crane Cams electronic system and you now won’t face any of the pernicious worries most MG owners have from fuel and electric issues! Of course the four speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. just like it should. with NO clutch slippage. Brakes are average. I do feel a little pull to the right when stopping. This vintage of MGB has front disk and rear drums. The exhaust system from the manifold back was replaced within the last year. It looks like one paint respray’s been done by the previous owner to the original color with some upper panel touchup. I’d currently rate it a ten-footer overall. Rust? Well. this classic cruiser HATES rust and you’ll be very hard pressed to find anything here to worry about. Yes. the Puget Sound region gets its share of drizzle. but rarely any snow so our winter roads are not salted. One snowflake and everyone stays home. Climb over. under and throughout and I know you’ll come up smiling! The past owner installed a patch panel to the underside of the driver’s floor and it’s well-secured and sealed. The factory glass is great with the exception of some clouding on the driver’s side bottom of the windscreen. All the original exterior chrome and trim is good. Each factory wire wheel is wrapped with a 175SR14 radial. all with at least 60-70% remaining tread. I think you should get several more years use out of the vinyl top. The rear windows are clear and there’s just a bit of normal “wear around the edges”. Some re-stitching is needed to the zipper strip at the top of the fold-down rear window panel. I’ll be sure to include the boot cover for the top tucked away in the trunk and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the very nice vintage tonneau cover that came with the car stored there as well. Of course the pictured spare wheel & tire and factory jack are included. Take another look at the interior shots. Both front buckets seats have been reupholstered and are in excellent shape. Both door panels are original and in decent. average shape. I’m sure you’ll appreciate the nice AM/FM/CD player with removable faceplate.
