This is a listing for a beautiful 1951 MG TD. This car has just completed a full restoration to show quality. No expenses were spared. No corners were cut. This car is finished in its original color combo of black with tan interior. This car had been off the road and garage stored since the late 1950s. It was purchased out of long term dry storage (Albany, NY) and brought back original standards. It showed just 29000 miles on the odometer prior to disassembly. It has traveled just 40 miles since complete engine rebuilt and restoration. The metal and wood on this car were in such good shape that no replacements were needed. This is very rare to find in a TD. I will list all specifics below.
ENGINE: 1275 XPAG engine. Fully rebuilt and balanced by Bill Cook who is known well to the US MG T register enthusiasts. This engine has been treated to a front and rear main seal conversion. It is likely the only TD in the region that doesn't leak engine oil! This was an expensive proposition and we have invested over $12K in the motor alone. XPAG motors are notorious for leaking as the front and rear main seals were not designed well. XPAG motors are very difficult to rebuild properly. The SU Carbs underwent full restoration by a well-known SU shop. The voltage regulator and generator were sent out for solid state internals to ensure excellent (and more modern) performance. There is a gear reduction starter in place from BritishStarters(this works so well).
Body/Paint/Interior: The body was disassembled and brought to bare metal. It was painted its original color black by Bob Ensign who is well known in the NY Capitol Region for his restoration work. The paint is magnificent. As mentioned above, the wood on this car was impeccable and did not need replacement. There is a completely new tan interior in the car. New convertible top and side curtains. These are the upgraded sunfast cloth material and it far nice than vinyl. New windshield glass. New fuel tank. All new hydraulics.
Other Particulars: Restored rims with 4 new Vredstein tires on the ground. New steering wheel. Stainless steel exhaust. rebuilt wiper motor. New bumpers. Too many other new or NOS parts to list. New AGM Battery.
Other Considerations: The tachometer is not working. I will try to sort that. This car does not come with a tonneau cover or boot top. If this car is purchased at the buy-it-now price I will buy a boot top or tonneau and provide to the new purchaser. They are easily obtained and fitted. Lastly, when polishing the chrome on the windscreen surround, a small nickel size piece of chrome listed off. I included a picture of that.
This car is part of my 25 car collection. The price guides show this car in this condition going for $36 to 41K. I will price to sell. I will be listing my MG TF shortly as well as I am changing my focus a bit.
NO RESERVE PRICE!
This car is located in Saratoga Springs, NY. 3 hours from NYC, Boston, and Montreal. This car has spent nearly its entire life up here. I will be happy to arrange for showing and driving as part of this sale. I also can transport this car to the new owner within a 200 or so miles for the cost of Gas and tolls. I will also assist in export if this car is leaving the country. My telephone number is (516)978-6161. This is the bast way to reach me. Thanks! Doc Martin
