Detailed item info Model OverviewSubaru's 2008 Impreza. denoted "2. 5 i. and its high-performance sibling. the WRX. are available as either a four-door sedan or five-door hatchback. The four-door sedan is about six inches longer than the hatchback. and the trunk can now hold three golf bags. On both models. the rear seats can be folded forward for more cargo capacity; on hatchbacks they fold forward for a flat loading floor. The Impreza is powered by a 170-horsepower. 2. 5L horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine. A new intake port helps improve low-rev torque. and a new catalyst system improves emissions. The high-performance WRX model gets a 224-horsepower. 2. 5L turbocharged flat-four; it also has improved low-end torque--with peak torque reached 800 rpm lower than before--and better fuel efficiency. thanks to a new turbocharger. intercooler. and intake manifold. All Impreza and WRX models have all-wheel drive. The horizontally opposed engine design also helps provide a low center of mass for secure handling. For 2008. the engine has been mounted slightly lower yet. The entire chassis is new. with improved rigidity. A new double-wishbone rear suspension also helps improve interior space and reduces road noise. WRX hatchbacks are distinguished visually by an under-body diffuser. single chrome exhaust pipe. while sedans have a dual-chrome-tipped exhaust and trunk spoiler. An Outback Sport model. available only as a hatchback. gets a raised suspension. body-side cladding. unique upholstery with heated front seats. and other additional equipment that's oriented toward those who plan to take the rough road. Inside. there's a twin-cockpit design with a brushed-aluminum look throughout. with an available navigation/info screen as the centerpiece. The available navigation system also has inputs for gaming consoles. Side-curtain air bags and a four-channel. four-sensor anti-lock braking system is also standard. as are active head restraints on all but the WRX performance seats. Two major option packages are available.
