Description

2003 Subaru Impreza WRX in strong running condition. This car is completely stock. never been modified. if you know the WRX market you know how rare that is. The OEM stereo is even still in place (I'll include my tape adapter. so you can plug in your phone and go). The only thing that isn't stock is the Optima red-top battery. which I installed recently. The car has had its 120k mile service performed. which included spark plugs and an oil change. I have included the inspection report from that service: as you can see. everything but the wiper blades is solid. including the tires and brake pads (pads were replaced in 2014). since I live in LA I haven’t bothered to change the wiper blades. Other maintenance performed by me includes a new valve cover gasket. oil cooler gasket. new timing belt. fan belts. and water pump. Engine pulls strong. A/C blows cold. All the electronics work perfectly. The previous owner pulled the fuse that makes the horn honk when the car is locked or unlocked with the remote. and I've left it that way. The horn will still sound if a door is open when you try and lock the car. Known issues. full disclosure: Cosmetically. while this car passes a thirty-foot test. it's not perfect. The black on the B pillars has worn down and is showing metal in spots. and the paint on the spoiler is definitely thin and worn. The body has pretty good paint (no thin or dull spots) but shows the signs of having lived in LA: a few smaller-than-dime-sized dings. a few scratches. scuffs. and chips. Inside the car everything is in good shape. except the cloth around the seams on the driver's door-side bolsters is starting to wear thin. I’ve included a picture. No tears or holes. and the seats are otherwise in good shape. No cracks in the dash or other plastics. No rust anywhere. this is a lifelong CA car. The previous owner also had dark tint installed on the rear windows. it does the job but it’s bubbling and separating. Additionally. sometimes when the car has been sitting overnight in the cold (below about 45 F. hey. that's cold for LA!). when it's started there's a scraping noise. I've had it checked out. and no shop has been able to replicate it. but both Kondo Motors and Santa Monica Subaru think it's the starter motor failing to disengage and being turned by the engine for a second before releasing. Neither of them thought it was worth pulling the car apart to confirm. and the car starts strong on the first try every time. Reverse gear is sometimes sticky. as is 1st. There's also a little Subaru slop in the stick. I purchased a set of Cobb shifter bushings to address that. but haven't installed them. I will include the bushings with the car. I've never had any problems driving the car. though; it always goes into gear. and shifts smoothly on the road. The final issue is this: There's a minor accident on the vehicle's title. shown as damage to the passenger-side rear in 2009. before I took ownership. The body is straight. and there are no visible signs of repair in the area. The car has been looked at by Kondo Motors. Stokes Tire. and Subaru Santa Monica; none of them have mentioned any damage or problems that might be related to an accident. So here's the deal: I'm moving to an even sportier car because I have a few years before kids become a factor in car-buying. and I only have space for one car in my life. I'm setting the opening bid for my totally fun and mostly excellent WRX at the Carmax offer. This is a car that is rarely found stock. that is a safe. fun. and practical daily driver. or an excellent platform for modification. and I hope it's worth more to someone who cares about what they're getting than it is to Carmax.
