Description

RUST FREE VEHICLE.
NO ACCIDENTS.
At 127,xxx miles, his truck in the elite class of cruisers of this era because it has such few miles and because it lived its life (except the first year, n San Francisco) in the South (Thomasville, A), nd never saw road salt (nor dirt, pparently), nd as such, scaped the rusty grave of so many of these otherwise legendary rugged units. It is literally in the top few percent. This vehicle saw a $7,000 mechanical restoration at Covington Toyota's service department, hich gave it new front disc brakes, aintenance on replacement of parts of the 4WD system, eplacing gaskets in the engine, ransmission/transfer case, ifferentials, nd axles, nd performing a full mechanical inspection. Toyota also completely rebuilt the air conditioning, ncluding a new compressor, o AC blows cold.
This was sold as a base model (affectionately known in the Cruiser Community as a “poverty pack”); no electric door locks, indows or mirrors. This is a bonus, s you avoid the electrical gremlins in the old electric systems of a 25-30 year old machine. This has a simpler electrics harness and many fewer electric parts, o it has fewer things to break and is more in keeping with the truck’s Spartan heritage and intended uses. The original radio is in there, nd works perfectly (although I have unplugged it in favor of the newer head unit beneath it - see pictures). This car is a 4-Speed automatic, the only transmission offered in the FJ62 (1998-1990), ith EOD. Fuel injected, OT carbureted like the FJ60 series.
This vehicle has never been off-roaded, nd has been a grocery-getter its entire life. It spent all but a few years garaged every day, o the dashboard is mint condition.
As far as the work performed at Toyota (work order is available upon request):
In September 5, 013, took this truck to Toyota for a mechanical inspection and told Toyota's service department to inspect and fix every part of the drivetrain, rakes, nd suspension and air conditioning that needed maintenance.
The truck was at Toyota for four months to complete all of this work.I spent $6,855 on this inspection and repair.
Toyota did the following:
  • Replaced all gaskets and seals that needed replacement, ncluding the transmission gaskets, ain gasket, ifferential gaskets, il pan gasket, xle gaskets, ront end seals, nd more.
  • Replaced shifter bushings;
  • New disc brakes and calipers installed, rums machined, ystem bled.
  • 4WD system maintenance performed and 4WD lockers replaced or repaired as needed.
  • New Toyota AC compressor installed and AC system rebuilt, o AC blows cold.
  • Car fully inspected for any other maintenance items, one required.
This car is in peak mechanical condition.
$750 spent to buy, aint, nd install a new old stock lift gate.
New battery and battery cables.
New Hankook Optimo tires were installed in 2012 and only have about 10k miles on them.
New Sony iPod-compatible head unit installed, nd four new weather-resistant Polk speakers installed, lthough I did not do the wiring properly for the front two speakers, o they are not connected.
Interior lights replaced with bright, ow-power LEDs.ALL MAINTENANCE PERFORMED, IL CHANGED EVERY 3k MILES.
Needless to say, his vehicle does not leak or burn oil.
The costly mechanical maintenance work has already been performed on this vehicle: Toyota Service replaced all under-car seals and gaskets and has no fluid drips or leaks of any kind, ncluding the engine, ransmission/transfer case, ifferentials and axles. The engine bay is quite clean. 4-wheel drive works flawlessly. The mechanical condition of the vehicle is amazing, o known issues, oes not overheat, verything works, ncluding the original electric antenna (a minor miracle). The wheel-wells, umpers, ndercarriage…all quite clean and rust-free. This vehicle was simply not used as intended.
This is a respray, epainted when ~6 months old. Odd-sounding story, ut true: The original owner bought this truck for his wife as a surprise, ut the only one on the dealer’s lot was this base model in “Freeborn” red, ut the deal was good and the truck was awesome, o he bought it and took a chance. She loved it, ut she HATED the color. Her complaining became more than he could handle, o he took it back to the dealer to trade in for a new one in a different color. The depreciation was a deal-killer, o he just had Toyota repaint it for $3,500, relatively expensive job at the time.
Has an aftermarket sunroof (ASC, op of the line) installed. This stopped working in the past year, ut I have the manual and replacement parts (probably a motor or poor ground) can be ordered if needed. The sunroof will leak if there are any obstructions in the drain lines
Stock rig except the aftermarket sunroof.
The rear bumper has a small dent, ead center, ut is totally acceptable to be left alone.
The car has a brand new windshield and gasket.
New old stock Toyota original headliner installed about a year ago.
Paint is in decent shape and is presentable. The paint in the immediate area around the sunroof has clear coat peeling and color fading. Some clear coat peeling on the driver side door.
A few minor dings in the body.
The alternator belt will occasionally squeak between 60-65 mph, ut it just needs to be tightened, ust have not gotten around to it. The alternator was rebuilt two years ago and puts out 14-15 volts at all times - no charging issues with this car.
Comes with a pair of Yakima roof rack bars, with locks and keys).
VIN #: JT3FJ62G7J0076468
Bottom line: This car is in amazing mechanical condition. A new paint job, lus fixing a few of the small dings, aybe new bumpers and fixing the small tear in the driver's seat, nd you have an as new FJ62. I will miss this car.
THIS TRUCK IS IN NEW ORLEANS. I will deliver anywhere between New Orleans and Pensacola, lorida for the cost of gas.
