We offer for sale our 1967 Beetle convertible. Please know that this is by no means "ordinary" inventory for us. The story of this special car begins with the dream of a good friend of ours (a lifelong VW/Mercedes technician) to restore what he believed to be the very best Beetle convertible ever produced, the 1967! After a two year search, he found it and then began a two year long nut/bolt rotisserie based restoration (photos and scrapbook will be forwarded to the purchaser). Sadly, in 2003, our friend became very sick and could no longer enjoy the Beetle. Along with the promise to lovingly care for it and respect it, we purchased it in 2003, shortly before his passing. It has been a 13 year love affair that we regret is ending.
It is only a lack of space and time that forces us to part with our cherished Beetle. We have used it sparingly over the last 13 years, and realize it is time for someone else to pamper and enjoy it. It is a fabulous car that has received a "labor of love" restoration by a skilled professional that simply could not be commissioned for any price.
It is easy to understand why the 1967 Beetle is so highly regarded. Look closely and you see all of the charm and detail of the of the sixties era Beetles, but it is coupled with a 12 volt electrical system, increased power, and a fully synchronized gearbox.
Our Beetle can be best described as being as near to museum quality as possible of an automobile that has received occasional road use since its restoration (less than 150 miles per year). As mentioned, it is the recipient of a nut/bolt restoration. It is 100% rust free, mechanically perfect, and ready for regular road use, or to be shown competitively.
The interior can be confidently described as NEW! (please notice the extremely rare "radio delete" filler panel.)
The top and headliner are also NEW!
The drive train operates perfectly! The cars starts, idles and performs exactly as new! We have recently replaced the carburetor and fuel pump ( both were faltering from lack of use/stale fuel), we have the originals as well.
The underside is 100% new and rust free as evidenced by the photos.
The exterior not only has a very high level application of show quality paint, but the body panels are finished to a near flawlessness that probably exceeds the factory standards of its day. We include photos taken from a floor to ceiling angle while the vehicle is lifted to eye level, in order to evidence the beauty and precision of the exterior.
Both the engine compartment and front "trunk" areas are finished to show quality standards. The underside and suspension are nearing show quality, only showing the slightest evidence of road use, as we do drive it.
Purchase this car with the intention of driving it, showing it, enjoying it, without any effort other than filling the tank with gasoline! The only items to be sorted should they be a nuisance are the left rear window regulator and front seat belt retractors (a little finicky when spooling back into park position). The window regulator has stripped splines, and can no longer be operated by the original crank, it can be operated using a vise grip as a handle. We have not addressed it as our outings are always top/windows down. The seat belts are original to the car and are still functional.
Driving it---a dream! Sounds great, capable of highway speed, 100% reliable! Drive it absolutely anywhere!
