Description

I purchased this car in Alabama about 10 years. It has been a continuous project ever since. The Ghia runs and drives but I would still consider it a project car. About 8 years ago I took the pan from a '73 Ghia and completely resto-modded it ( the original pan is available ). new pan halves welded in. sand blasted. painted. sound deadening material installed. hand-formed new brake lines. replaced fuel line with stainless 3/8 inch. new polyurethane bushings. new 1 inch sway bars front and rear. new 4 wheel disc brakes with park brake. lowered and narrowed 2 inch front beam. I purchased a Type IV 2. 0 L engine ( 95 hp. ) from a '74 Porsche 914 with about 87000 miles on it. all seals that could be replaced without opening the engine. were. a cylinder compression check shows 100 psi on one and around 95 psi on the other three cylinders. engine doesn't burn oil but drips like any V. W. Then bought a DTM installation kit from Aircooled Technology ( Jake Raby ). MSD ignition. along with a totally rebuilt and modified 4-spd. transmission that is designed to take advantage of the torque characteristics of a Type IV eng. . a 1500 lb. performance clutch from Kennedy in California. a ceramic coated exhaust system from A-1 Exhausts in California. I am currently running dual 44mm. Weber carbs. which are too large for this eng. ( idles rough ) but runs great on top end. Also included. but not installed. is an AirKewld air-ride suspension. and a new in-the-box wiring harness. interior side panels. glove box. The new Optima battery has been relocated. inside. under the speaker box. The stereo is Kenwood KDC-MP4032 unit CD/FM/ satellite capable with the installation of a module. The speaker box is custom made with Kenwood 400W amp KAC-6202 and 2 6x9 Kenwood speakers. front speakers. n the console. are 5 inch Sonys. The only rust the Ghia ever had was minor. pan (replaced). battery tray (replaced). below rear window and dog leg (both treated with rust converter). The front has had collision damage in the past that was nicely repaired by a body shop. the ends of both fenders were removed and new sheet metal installed ( no headlight adjustment issues ). The bumpers are original German that have been straightened and rechromed. I replaced the vinyl top 9 years ago. it is still good. but the top padding and headliner appear to be original and are usable but not great. The windshield appears to be original. not milky but one small chip and a few tiny pits. The weatherstripping has been replaced. new carpet . door panels. sun visors. Seats are out of a Chrysler Conquest. they are comfortable. but not in great shape. they are installed on original seat tracks. so. stock seats can be installed if desired. The tires are mounted on 5 spoke polished aluminum EMPI's. they are about 6 years old. but probably don't have 300 miles on them. For the last 10 years ( since I've owned the car ) it has been kept in a climate controlled basement. My "buy it now" price is less than half what I have in it. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. this car is very low to the ground. you will need to consider that when loading.
