I am both excited and reluctant about selling this wonderful Volvo 1800 ES. I am thrilled for the new owner. as it is a great car. I am sad because I can not keep every great car I find. even though I intended to keep this forever. as it was an amazing find. If you have been looking for a good driver quality unmolested ES. read on. I have listed this car at a very reasonable reserve. well below what nice examples have been selling for. I have had three ES's and by far this is the best and my favorite color combination. This will be a detailed description of the car. how I found it. and what I have done to it. Please check my feedback as a seller and see that you are purchasing from a long time eBay member. who loves cars. and occasionally sells one from my personal collection as here. This Volvo was bought new at Loyd Pearson Volvo in Pasadena (yep the little old lady from Pasadena) by a teacher at Pasadena City College (Parking permits still in windscreen) through 1984. As near as we can tell. she retired and moved to Oregon and the car was supposed to follow but never did. It was discovered by a friend of mine in a garage with 26. 00 miles on the odometer and last registered in 1985 (one of the California original Blue license plates comes with the car). I did not receive anything when I bought the car by way of paperwork. except the old style California "pink slip" and the DMV issued me a new one with "Actual Mileage" as of March 2013 when I retitled the car. showing 28. 39. The car has current California plates and tags and is ready to enjoy. Exploring and investigating the car. the mileage could very well be correct. especially as it was off the road for so long. Or there could have been an odometer speedometer replacement somewhere. except California tracks that most of the time. The steering wheel has no cracks. and the original pedal pads show very little wear. The engine though in need of a good detail. has superb compression. and oil pressure. and runs like a sewing machine. obviously the car had to have a lot of fuel lines. tank flush. (which had been stored full and with an additive we think as it came out spotless) and we replaced all the calipers. brake hoses. filters. rebuilt hydraulics. battery (from Volvo) new cables. a new clutch and cable. U joints. alternator. radiator overhaul and thermostat. and the car began to drive like a dream. The engine bay has all its original labels. but needs a good detailing. It was lightly freshened for a car show but needs more. The gearbox feels very low mileage. and makes no noise. Overdrive works beautifully though the little light does not illuminate. I then addressed cosmetics as the original leather seats were like sheets of deformed stone. The gorgeous big comfy leather seats are part of the attraction for me and they were completely redone correctly. with the thick rolls they came with new. Delicious. The body had a few bumps and scrapes but no accident we could find and most importantly. NO RUST. Whether you buy this car or not please. unless you are a skilled welder and body specialist. or know one well. don't get a rusty 1800 and think you can save it. I ant them all saved too but these cars. once rusty. are diabolical to repair. During the repaint we found no floor rust. no rocker rust. nothing but a slight amount in the lower tailgate lip which was cleaned up and a better draining gasket used to replace it. The original color was sprayed six times. and color sanded and buffed for a beautiful driver quality job with the windshield out. and then replaced with a new seal. No other glass was removed (its tricky on these) but the result is terrific and side window scrapers and some other rubber bits were replaced. The car was fully recarpeted with a nice quality padded and edged set professionally installed. and a dash cap placed on the upper dash. The air conditioning is all there and has not been serviced. but all the vents and fragile bits are there and excellent shape. Period radio plays well. Heater defroster works well with a non standard heater valve and underdash cable ( easily returned to stock. nothing was altered). The original headliner is fine. however the dome light doesn't work and hasn't been explored. The door surround rubbers need changing as well. Original Jack. Owners handbook. and a the full 1973 Green 1800ES workshop manual will come with the car. It starts every time. runs very sweetly. and is ready for a bit more attention to small details mentioned to be a very lovely example of a great car. I welcome inspection of any kind during. but not after the auction. This is the real thing from a trusted seller. I am happy to also answer any questions via email or phone. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. but there is no buy it now. My goal is to hold a fair auction and have someone get a great deal on a very good car. All the best. BobOn Feb-18-15 at 21:05:24 PST. seller added the following information: Thanks for the great responses to the ad in this first day of a short five day auction. I had two very good questions. The exhaust system has been replaced with all new back to the original twin tailpipe and sounds wonderful. Should last a good twenty years. The roof rack is the original Volvo fitted rack. and all four of the towers (which attach to the roof itself) were professionally replated due to corrosion. at great cost. when the car was repainted. The strips on the roof have new rubber insulators. and the strips appear to be stainless and are in excellent condition. The cross bars are in good to very good condition and were not replated but could be to make the rack completely show quality. It is a very useable and stable rack. and a desirable addition to these cars.
