Description

Very few of the Cream Gul Yellow T-5r's were brought into the United States in 1995, in fact, only about 185 of a total of 904 came to the United States that year making this a rare and beautiful survivor. This car has many IPD upgrades including flashed ECU, torsion bars, silicone cooling hoses, pillar pod pack (boost, volts and oil pressure). When I purchased this car, it had been sitting for several years and needed a full service along with other items including:
New front tiresRotor and CapSparkplugsAir CleanerMultiple vacuum hosesSmog Check - with flying colorsA/C chargeNew BatteryFuel Pump (Bosch)Compressor Bypass Valve kitMobil One Synthetic02 Sensor (front)Brake system flushedCooling system flushed (citric acid flush) radiator appears new
The previous owner had picked it up from original owner who embellished much love on this car as evidenced by the upgrades and the 100k and 200 k badges on rear trunk. Paint needed attention so I clayed and polished after a thorough wash and this single stage paint (as original) came back beautifully with nice luster and shine. Interior was near perfect so little was required there. I spoke with original owner to learn more about it's history and he verified that the top end had been done about 40,000 miles ago by the dealership - this explains the compression, only five pounds variance!Trans shifts perfectly (full fluid change) and the boost is impressive in this high boost engine. I had cleaned the compressor bypass valve and decided to upgrade to IPD's heavier spring kit . . . this car really pops when you floor it! The EVAP system was cleaned out and all emission controls are correct . . . car breathes great and no doubt system was replaced when top end was done. The Titan rims are still on the car, one is slightly bent and will be repaired upon purchase and I will offer an extra Titan rim that I picked up on EBay along with this car. This car, being a California car is rust free and has very minor dings, mostly on front and rear plastic air dam and rear cowl. Note: The salvage title is not due to an accident! In this case, the previous owner allowed DMV fees to accrue and could not afford to pay them so this was cleaned up by gentleman I purchased car from.
If car reaches 8,000, I will have front air dam and rear cowl repainted for new ownerIf car reaches 9,500, I will have Titans balanced and refinished for new owner
This T-5R will most likely be purchased by a Volvo enthusiast who knows and respects this particular model . . . these seem to be disappearing fast as they do not show up often on Craig's List and other sites. This car is very clean under the hood and elsewhere, you will not be disappointed and it is fast! Bid with confidence on this very clean example. I will try to add more pictures for those out of state or other who require more detail. Thank you!
850 T-5R[edit]

For model year 1995, a high performance model, developed in part with Porsche, was released and designated the850 T-5R. Originally it was to be called850 plus 5.[15]The vehicle was based on the 850 Turbo, utilizing theB5234T3engine with a special ECU (Bosch#628) that added an additional 2psi (0.1bar) of turbocharger boost pressure,[16]giving the engine an extra 18hp (13kW; 18PS) for a total of 243hp (181kW)[17]and 250lb·ft (340N·m) of torque. The engine was mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission or 5-speed manual transmission, the latter of which was not available in the US. The T-5R was renowned as a sleeper car; despite its boxy, understated appearance, it boasted adrag coefficientof 0.29 and was capable of accelerating from 0 to 60mph (97km/h) in 5.8 - 6.0 seconds (depending on transmission and body type). The top speed was electronically limited to 152.2mph (244.9km/h). The vehicle came standard withPirelliP-Zero tires, providing lateral grip of 0.88 g. The engine tuning was co-developed with Porsche, as was the transmission and other powertrain components. Porsche also aided in designing some of the interior, such as theAlcantaraseat inserts. These cars came as standard with nearly every feature available, only a handful of options - such as heated rear seats - were available. On the North American market only two options could be chosen, a trunk-mounted Alpine 6-CD changer and no-cost 16" wheels for a smoother, more comfortable ride and driveability in snow when using all-season tires.

Also included in the 1995 T-5R package was a front bumper with a lip, rear spoiler, side skirts, polished aluminum door sills, special graphite leather andAlcantaraseats, and a black interior with deep walnut wood grain accents. Both yellow and black versions came with the same black interior as the only choice. The T-5R has an additional badge to the left of the "850" on the trunk, referred to as "The Motorsport badge". The standard road wheel was the titanium-gray 5-spoke 17×7 "Titan". 1995 was the only year that the a model was badged as a "T-5R"; the following year, as Volvo recognized the vehicle's popularity, the model was renewed with the designation "850R".

The Volvo 850 T-5R was also noted for its safety features. It was the first automobile to be fitted standard with four airbags.[citation needed]The side airbags were installed in the seat cushions. The side airbags were integrated into the rest of the Volvo model line the following year as an option, and became standard a year after that; other manufacturers soon followed suit. The car was also fitted with an early example ofdaytime running lamps. Also, just like the 940, it had three-point seatbelts at all five seating positions (previously, cars had only a lap belt for the center rear seat). The T-5R also used the OBDII diagnostics system, a year before OBDII was made an automotive standard.

5500 T-5Rs were produced worldwide, of which 904 went to the United States, 185 were yellow. The 1995 850 T-5R was limited in exterior paint color choices:

  • Cream yellow – 1975 worldwide including saloon and estate
  • Black – 3025 worldwide including saloon and estate
  • Emerald green metallic – 0500 worldwide including saloon and estate
