1964 BMW R-60/2 Frame...VIN # 626442... BMW R-69 Motor... VIN # 652899... Odometer reads 8697 miles...
It's a safe bet that the mileage is not original to either the motor or the frame, ut more likely this mileage represents the miles clockedsincethis unit was restored, ut we don't really know if that is the case...
This unit is completed by the attachment of a 1960's era Globe GS 200 sidecar...
So... This motorcycle / sidecar unit was owned by a family member who was forced to terminate his motorcycle enthusiasm due to the relentless aging process, omplicated by increasing health issues... Since his subsequent passing, e have been, ery slowly, lacing the contents of his shop back into circulation for the benefit of his widow... We may not have all of the answers, ut we will do what we can to encapsulate our recollections and observations to the best of our ability...
This all having been said, he following observations represent the DOWNSIDE of things as we see them....
Although the kick starter depresses smoothly and shows plenty of compression, his bike has not been started, uch less ridden, n several years, nd may require a little TLC to get it to fire up. The custom in our uncle's shop was always to stow away, r store bikes properly, e: drain the fuel tank, isconnect the battery leads etc. etc. etc., hus insuring minimum hassle when time came for a revival, ut in reiterating, t has been sitting for some time...... Due to age and inactivity, he clutch cable, he front brake cable, nd the throttle cables are all a bit sticky and should probably be changed... Although the spokes look pretty good, he rims are slightly pitted, s are some of the other chrome bits, ut all in all, he pitting on the rims does not call attention to itself... The tires are not a matched set, nd although they look to be in great shape, hey are, onetheless, lder so please be advised... The battery is dead... There is no tire pump, o steering lock key, o tool kit, o manual, o shop rag...re: The sidecar, he top of the deck has an unobtrusive quarter size dent. The rubber suspension strapsare somewhatcracked and will need to be changed out. We do have a couple of pairs in a spares box, owever, nd will be most happy to include them. The sidecar fender had a quarter size ding in the very back at the bottom...
The following observations represent theUPSIDE of things as we see them...
When depressing the kick starter, s mentioned, here is plenty of compression, nd when the clutch cable is depressed, here is unquestionablyplenty of spring...The most interesting and/or attractive element to this unit is the fairly rare, ate 50's, -69 motor which masters the drive train... It was the heart of the higher compression, imited production, -69 which was the precursor to the much coveted R-69 S. There were only 2,955 R-69 motors ever produced...
Overall, he paint is better than decent, nd the seat looks absolutely new... The fuel tank is clean and dent free... The tool box hinge is clean and tight, nd the key is present... The sheet metal is straight and true, ave for a couple of smallish wrinkles in the rear fender near the hinge... As mentioned, he chrome bits throughout are not all perfect, ut they show pretty well and are certainly all better than serviceable... The silencers, lthough slightly more pitted than the other chrome bits, till present very well, nd the header pipes are perfect and dent free... Some minor accessories worth mentioning would be a set of finned header nuts, n oil temp gauge at the filler hole,a pair of chrome roundel trim rings, n eyebrow headlamp ring complete with a chrome headlamp protector, nd a pair of headlamp mounted mirrors...
The rear gear housing is stamped 6/26, hich are the correct bevel/crown wheel #'s for the application of a side car to an R-69 motor...
The sidecar, lthough not a "Steib," is the Globe GS 200 which is/was a contemporaneous, icensed copy of the Steib LS 200, anufactured in collaboration with Steib, n India... This chair is clean and straight, nd the hull is sound without any rust or deterioration. The paint is certainly better than decent and the upholstery is in good shape with no rips, ears, r abrasions...
I guess what we remember is that our uncle didn't restore this particular unit. He acquired it already restored...The complete restoration was undertaken by one of the "old pro's" in the club, ho is now gone...There isn't a clear timeline, ut we're pretty sure the restoration took place around 1997 or 1998...Unfortunately,there are not anydocuments or receipts.....
This restoration was the work of the legendary Ozzie Auer, f Ozzies BMW in Chico California...Ozzie passed away this past February...To check out the man who restored this bike, oogle up Ozzie Auer, nd you'll find an enormous amount of info about the man and his machines, s well as vintage pics of Ozzie at rallys, r even in race mode...There is a "You Tube" video of Ozzie on his 1939 R-51 S racer, nd "Pinterest" has a pic of Ozzie and Walt racing "The Mudhole" during the 1970 Hopetown Grand Prix in Simi Valley Ca. on a modified R-50 / 2, omplete with a sidecar....Really!...Check 'em out...They are very cool pics!.....
The California title is free and clear, nd without trying to much to oversell this thing, t really is very clean and would present a wonderful opportunity for the right buyer.....
When deciding if this particular set-up might, n fact, e for you, lease make no mistake, t is not in mint or original condition... It looks pretty good in the photographs, ut, s mentioned,it was restored at some point several years ago, nd it does bear a slight patina of age and use. PLEASE do bear that in mind if you plan to engage in the bidding process.....
This sale / auction goes forward AS IS / WHERE IS, ith no warranties or guarantees either expressed or implied... The shipping and / or transport is to be the sole responsibility of the buyer, owever, e will be happy to assist in the coordination and / or logistics...
For interested parties with 2 or less positive feedback, lease contact us in advance of bidding... All others with 2 or less positive feed back will be deleted and blocked.............................. Thanks for looking and have a nice day!
