Description

Here is your chance to own a piece of history!! Up for sale is a 1956 Russian Zid K-55. This bike is designed after the German DKW 125. After WWII many motorcycle manufacturers copy the DKW. Harley Davidson copied it and called it the Hummer BSA copied it and called it the Bantam Yamaha copied it and called it the YA1 (By the way that was Yamaha's first production bike in1949) and of course the Russians copied it and called it the ZID.
This bike was in amuseum in Latvia until 2006 when a small time motorcycle dealer bought several and brought them to the states. I bought it from him in 2008 when he closed shop. Someone did a very poor restoration on the bike. I striped the bike down to the bare frame and performed a frame up restoration. I had the frame center stand swing arm fork tubes and luggage rack powder coated. The fenders gas tank and tool box were painted with a base coat clear coat process. Nothing was left undone. All chrome pieced were re-chromed. All wiring is new the tire tubes are new the battery is new the hand grips and all shifter and foot peg rubber has been replaced. Mechanically the cylinder head and cylinder were removed for blasting and painting. While apart the head was port and polished the cylinder was honed as well as painted and baked. All cables have been replaced carburetor was cleaned. The interior of the gas tank was cleaned etched and coated with a three step process. The spokes are new. The tank badges are new and thepin-stripingwas done professionally by hand. Both thepin-stripingand tank badges were applied before the final clear coat for added protection. All aluminum surfaces have been polished. All hardware has been replaced. I tried to reuse as many of theoriginalparts as possible. Where replacement parts were necessary I saved theoriginalparts. The tires are original and have the words Made In The USSR stamped on them. I have a service manual however it is written in Russian.
I rode this bike before it was disassembled. Since its restoration I have pit gas in the carb and started the bike however I have not riden it because I now consider it to be a show bike. I entered it into a show last summer and took first place in theEuropean Vintage Stockdivision.
