1968 BSA 650 Thunderbolt A-65, Unrestored 2 - Owner Time Machine

This is a 2-owner BSA 650 Thunderbolt. I acquired this from the second owner who purchased it in 1974. He put about 1000 miles on it between 1974 and 1979 when it was last licensed. Last pic is of postmarked envelope & title issued in 1974, long with the last registration from 1979. From 1979 to early 2015 it has been stored on the center-stand in the previous owner's dry and conditioned garage. It is in very original, nmolested condition. The horn mount and a bracket near the battery tray are missing, nd the air box/cleaner has been removed but otherwise, he only apparent changes from its stock configuration are the period-installed aftermarket handle bars, ufflers & chrome side covers.
Cosmetically the bike is in essentially “as-found” condition It was given a light cleaning and polish to reveal its potential. It shows the wear from prior use expected in an unrestored vintage bike but is in remarkably good condition for its age. The major chrome surfaces of the fenders and tank have polished out nicely but it would benefit from a thorough detail and cosmetic reconditioning to make it really pop.
Mechanically the bike is in great condition for its age. Repairs were made to the few things that were needed to get it into running order. A new battery was installed, he clutch was disassembled, leaned and adjusted, he carburetor bowl was removed and internally cleaned, nd fresh fluids were added, nd new stoppers installed in the petcocks. All the lights and horn work and the original wiring harness is intact. It starts, uns, hifts, nd rides like it should but could benefit from some minor mechanical TLC (e.g., linkage adjustments, nugging loose fasteners, tc.) before returning to the road.

• Period-installed “cocktail shaker” mufflers
• Period-installed high rise handlebars

Please Note:
The attachment hardware for the chrome side covers are also worn/missing which prevents them from being securely attached. They are mounted for the pictures but will be removed and shipped separately so they don't get lost in shipment. The new owner will need to replace/recondition the attachment hardware (they are similar to Dzus fasteners).
