This is by far the best-running BSA 250 I've ever ridden. With just over 1,400 miles, t runs like new. It starts easily, uns great, it shifts smoothly and precisely, pulls hard through all the gears and I've run it at 70 mph on club rides, eeping up with the big singles and twins, uch to their surprise! It's actually as fast as my 441 Victor, nd is smoother, asier to start and handles better. The brakes work beautifully, hat twin-leading shoe front brake hauling the bike down from speed like a disc!
It's a beautiful machine, lthough not a show bike. There are some nicks, laws, tc. A couple tiny small cuts in the original seat were filled and are almost invisible. The Dunlop K-70-style tires have very good tread on them but have cracking on the sidewalls. The color scheme and decals really show off the bike's great lines, nd I've fitted a Dunstall Decibel Silencer muffler in place of the stock item, hich allows the quarter-litre single to breath better, ev higher and run stronger than stock. It also gives it an authoritative "big thumper" sound. If you prefer the stock muffler, 'll switch it back for you. I've ridden it on the All-British Ride out of Hansen Dam here is SoCal a few times and it keeps up with the big bikes and I can slip under them in the corners as it is so nimble and easy handling.
This is an ideal classic bike for the beginner to the hobby, or a woman or a shorter rider. Its 18-inch wheels keep the saddle height low enough to place both your feet on the ground at stop lights. Also, he previous owner had fitted turn signals, hich actually work! It does add an extra element of safety in traffic and I find myself using them. The photos show the stock Western bars but I replaced them with lower European bars (see last pics from British Run where I'd just completed 110-mile loop through the Angeles Crest Highway). If you prefer the higher bars, can swap them back for you too.
Hard to find a really good 250 BSA out there, nd these are getting a lot of attention lately as the 441 singles are up around the $10k mark now for the really good ones. And with just over 1400 miles on the working odometer, t's fresh, trong and reliable.
I have the clear title, n my name. Enjoy the pics, sk any questions!
