This is my Cafe’ version of a bike Honda should have imported to the US, ut didn’t. These were primarily sold in Japan, ngland and I believe Australia for licensing and insurance purposes and thus are rare in America. I first fell in love with the engine, 399cc, ll straight-cut-gear-driven 4-overhead cam, -valve, ater-cooled 90° V4 putting out 60hp. This is a Japanese Domestic Market bike I acquired in Abbotsford, C. It has a clear Washington State title with a BC VIN. To research this bike, ust Wikipedia it, r plug it into U-Tube to watch Brit squids wheelieing through the gears in traffic. I dropped it one tooth on the countershaft sprocket. It will power-wheelie in first and I’ve achieved 120mph indicated (I weigh 200lbs). It revs freely to 16,000 RPM and makes a sound unlike any you’ve ever heard. What follows is a comprehensive list of improvements/modifications.
All original plastic removed and discarded, he rear subframe cleaned of various unnecessary mounts, rackets, tc. Relocated the Shorai battery, adiator overflow and derestricted ECU under the seat hump. Filled in the gaps on the tank sides, ounded the bottom seams for a custom look. The bike is painted Porsche India/Guards red with black hi-lites and clear coated. Paintwork and custom leather seat done by Young Pon of Bellingham, A. I rebuilt the brake cylinders, orks and carburetors using OEM parts. Balanced all 4 carbs. Powder coated the wheels black. I polished the frame rails, tripped and polished the engine side cases and valve covers and polished various small aluminum parts. Had a number of small parts chrome plated. Of the 4 into 1 into 2 exhaust, he 4 into 1 part is stock Honda. The into 2 part was custom fabricated in SS by Carl of SuperRat in Bellingham (See Cafe’ Racer TV). The following is a list of parts modifications and additions.
New Hagon shock. New gold DID chain. Roc City Cafe Racers custom made the aluminum fenders and provided the fiberglass Cafe’ seat. Driven handlebar riser/clip-ons and red anodized twist grips. Rizoma provided the billet LED gold anodized turn signals, ydraulic brake fluid reservoirs, nd license plate mount. Dime City furnished the shorty megaphones, ear view mirrors, iberglass exhaust wrap and SS zip-ties. (The megaphones were insane so I installed Zard baffles borrowed from my Ducati’s exhaust system. It doesn’t piss off too many neighbors now.) New braided steel brake lines. Ducati oil cooler mounted amidships. Lighting: ’59 Cadillac Eldo blue-dot tail light; Lite Blazer LED license light bar; Ducati 999 projector beam headlight with some German zillion-candlepower halogen bulb (One beam only — no high/low). Dennis Kirk frame sliders. Cox SS radiator screen. NGK iridium spark plugs. New OEM fuel petcock. Numerous new SS and chrome-plated fasteners. Air-Tech R90S fairing with Gustafsson red-tinted windscreen (I custom-welded the mount from 1/2” OD steel tubing. It houses the stock gauge cluster, reakers, urn signals, eadlight and horn). KM to MPH convertor (the odometer currently indicates 23,868 of which about 1,000 are miles, he rest is pre-convertor Kilometers which works out to about 15,200 miles on the bike). The tires are Bridgestone Battleax BT39s.
This bike is one of one, tarts easily, uns great, oes not leak oil, oes like stink for a 400 and is a hoot to ride.
