Description

I have owned this 1977 Ducati 900 GTS for about 2 years. I brought it into the collection thinking I'd make a tribute bike, ut as you can see, haven't done that. Changes in life are bringing me to detach myself from certain treasures and focus on other priorities. I've owned several Ducati bevel twins, nd sadly, his was the least used of them all. I've probably covered less than 150 miles on this bike during my tenure. With that said, will go on to describe what I know about this particualr machine:Prior to my purchase, t had been owned by a flight engineer in southern California since 1987, s the title shows. I had the opportunity to speak with him briefly, s his declining health spurred the sale of his bikes. He told assured me that the bike had been very well maintained and tastefully upgraded with a few non-stock mods. He had personally rebuilt the engine from the ground up at some point in the early 1990s. Hotter cams were added, s well as new big end bearings. While he had the engine out, he frame was powdercoated. He removed the electric start components and installed a non-electric start cover. He had also purchased a NOS speedometer at the time of rebuild, ith zero miles, s to accurately document mileage on the "new" engine. Please take this with a grain of salt, ecause I can not confirm that all of the information given is 100% accurate. The bike was not running at the time I purchased it, s it had been sitting along side the rest of the bikes being sold by his wife. I trusted enough to pay the money and load the bike.I went through the obligatory steps when I got the bike home. I fogged the cylinders, hanged the oil and filter, ebuilt the carburetors (with kits), nbsp;checked valve clearances, dded a battery and went through the starting procedure. The bike certainly did not roar to life, ut took some effort to get it going. Once running, was very happy with what I'd purchased. That's really where the story ends. I rode the bike around town, dding miles to get a feel for what it may or may not need. Apart from that, t's been sitting. The bike ran very well and pulled very strong, s one would expect from a bevel twin of this vintage. There were no funny noises in the engine or valve train. The gearbox shifted with ease. And everything electrical seemed to work very well.My assessment of the bike would call it fair to good condition. Despite all the good, here is some not so good. The center stand bracket that extends out for foot actuation is broken off. There is no side stand. The left BUB muffler baffle rattles inside of the silencer. Tires aged, ome rubber bits are perished, ut not past it. It's got a Lucas Rita ignition (depending on who you ask, don't personally like it)It's got aftermarket and more modern switch gear (again, ersonal preference). It has an aftermarked brake master cylinder, MW grips, aitors and turn signals. (P.O. loved his Beemers.)The bike will need the requisite attention to get it roadworthy again, s it has not been on the streets in 2 years. I did fire it up a few weeks ago. Ran a little rough- I'm sure old fuel, ow battery, tc.These bike are usually traded with some amount of mystery. They can be fickle and delicate if mistreated. But, t is a bevel drive Ducati twin. A rare steed in most stables these days. Please ask questions regarding conditon if you feel I've left anything out (which I'm sure I may have). Communication is key.I'm happy to hold the bike for an agreed upon amount of time while shipping is being arranged. This, f course, ill be discussed after deposit and full payments are made. I expect a $300.00 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of winning bid. This can be made via Pay Pal. The remainder, hich I will require within 7 days of the auctions end can be made via wire transfer, ash in person, r cashiers check. Please let me know how I can help! The bike will not leave until funds have been secured and verified. Thanks!
