Description

This is a beautiful machine.(In the sense of its time and original craftsmanship) That being said if you are after a perfectly restored mint bike please continue your search. However if you want a 99% original OEM bike that is capable of everyday riding look no further and bid NOW! Its a 1965 Harley FLH electraglide panhead. 1965 was the last year Harley produced the panhead and also the first year they began offering electric start. I will regret selling this bike! I know I will eventually want one in my collection but for now my finances wont permit it. My descriptions tend to be long winded.. But I want all bidders to feel confident to bid and know what it is you are getting. With that said please read entire listing and also review all pictures provided. Use them as part of the description too. Also don't hesitate to ask questions via message or call my cell phone. 336.324.0083. (I am on eastern standard time)

I acquired this bike from the first owner after a local police department in Connecticut. He purchased it from his town via a public auction in 1969. Obviously not stock but luckily only cosmetic changes and survived the 70s with out being chopped or completely dismantled. When I got it from him it reminded me of a mad maxx bike of sorts.. Big bulky bags fairing and tour pack... Tons of studs and spikes everywhere! It also was sporting (incorrect) 3 gallon tanks a later style bendix carburetor and non OEM handle bars. Lucky for me he had saved the original take off parts. I spent the next few months re installing the OEM 5 gallon one year only gas tanks rebuilt and installed the linkert carb and original bars and controls. I tuned it up changed the fluids new tires new battery (gel type with OEM size) and began to ride her. It runs starts stops shifts and rides like a top! I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it and even travel distances from my house and shop...

The bike seems very original with mostly correct for 1965 parts. It has factory OEM vin numbers. Not tampered with and follow the correct even/odd pattern (odd for 1965) and is a low 4 digit vin number. It also has factory matching belly numbers. The wiring was redone at some point and with "later" coated wires. No big deal just not original. It has an older repaint as best I can tell for sure the tanks.. Maybe not the fenders... I'm no expert... But the bike has that "patina" look where it could be a barn find...bird poop and all now... It is slightly dusty and dirty now and will clean up if you so desire.. When I swapped the tanks I made sure the date code on the upper motor mount was correct for 1965.. It was. It features the outside oiler heads which in my opinion are the cream of the crop for panheads! Run so smooth and constant like a sewing machine. The transmission shift good and easy through the gears. No unusual noises or pulling issues. The one part I was told is incorrect was the smooth covered buddy seat?? But it has a 1965 yellow stamp on the pan and the cover clips I was told where correct for 1965.. So who knows.. I don't nit pick bikes I ride them... And this one rides good. The side primary cover was chromed but otherwise I see date codes and OEM markings and finishes on most everything.. (I just remembered I also have the OEM aluminum valve covers.. They aren't on the bike or in any pictures but will be included...)

YES THAT IS BIRD POOP ON THE FRONT FENDER..... Happened last week while riding... Heard it was good luck so I left it!

I recently installed the hard bags and bag guards since I took it on a couple hundred mile ride 2 weeks ago. It didn't miss a beat. I am also including the original front fairing and tour pack to match... The tour pack is also filled with OEM parts that where removed and I didn't reinstall on the bike. Like.... One year only rear crash bars/engine guards No side fill oil tank mousetrap clutch and hardware blinkers brackets and lots of tin chrome covers and a front bumper..... etc.... (Though the front fender is drilled for a police siren... It was the one part I didn't receive with the bike. I assume the police station removed it when they auctioned the bike off??) Ive seen them for sale just never picked one up for it because I heard they are terribly loud sitting up on the front fender for the rider...

Like I said I am no expert.. But I know its getting hard to find unmolested bikes like this. For it to survive the time period with only a few spikes and studs added seems pretty amazing to me. I know when I will afford to have a 65 it will probably be near impossible to find one of this originality.. Weather your looking for a good bike for restoration or just a nice rider panhead with electric start this bike has your name on it!

I will be going to the AMCA meet in Rhinebeck June 12-13th and can possibly deliver there or between NC and there assuming its paid for or a substantial down payment made and remainder in cash... I expect the deposit with in 48 hours of the auction end and contact also with in the same time period.. I can not accept the full payment VIA paypal due to fees and the man... I will however accept certified check (for exact amount) cash or wire transfer.. The payment will clear my hands before the bike leaves my possession. I have the clear and clean title in my name and will sign it over when payment clears.. not before. Usual buyer seller stuff.. I also can be around to help load or meet a shipper of your choice... But it is up to you to arrange the shipper and shipment. The bike can sit as long as needed for you to get it assuming its paid for. I have a big garage and insure all bikes on premise..

PLEASE CHECK ALL THE PICS AND BID ACCORDINGLY. I have set what I think is a "low reserve" I have seen 3 other 65s get bid above my reserve and they where all missing key 1965 only parts.... ask questions if needed..
