Description

1933 Harley-Davidson VE. The Harley 74 cubic inch flathead Big Twin was the dominant bike in the US for 1930-36 at a time of very restrained demand. It was launched close to the time of the 1929 Wall Street Crash and followed by four straight years of declining production. Ignaz Schwinn pulled the
plug on Excelsior/Henderson production in 1931, eaving just Harley and Indian to battle it out over the Depression years. Indian had been bought by Du Pont in 1930, nd Harley moved away from their standard Olive Green paint scheme in order to compete. The 1933 model year turned out to be the worst year of the Great Depression, with the Harley factory down to a two day week, losing money, and back to production numbers last seen in 1910.
For the 1933 model year, arley announced five standard colors for the first time, nd this machine is correctly finished in the stunning Olive Green and Brilliant Green paint scheme with gold striping and the one-year-only Art Deco 'bird' motif on the tank. William S.Harley was still Chief Engineer
for the company, nd a premium priced Sport Solo Special was announced with a Y-manifold and new cylinders. The new motor developed 36 horsepower, nd one was run at 104 mph on Muroc Dry Lake to take the American production bike speed record.
This particular machine has all original sheet metal and the 36 hp motor, and was completely restored by VL Heaven last year. It achieved its Winners Circle judging award from the AMCA this season. All three AMCA awards were received this year. The machine has been ridden perhaps ten miles since restoration and comes with a clean title. Investment quality VLs are hard to find, nd very few have survived from Harley's lowest production year in the Depression."
Now for the boring stuff. The bike is being sold "AS IS-WHERE IS, ith no guarantee, r warranty of any kind. It runs, ides, nd all systems operate correctly. I will include all the judging sheets to document this motorcycle to the new owner. I will require a $1000.00 non-refundable deposit to my Paypal account within 2 business days of the auction ending. The Balance of the payment will need to be via wire transfer. I can arrange for shipping, r assist. The title is in my name, nd will be signed over to the new owner as soon as funding clears, ailed via USPS Express. I will not end the auction early or reveal the reserve price. Thanks for looking and Good Luck!
