Description

Up for sale is my 79 XLS Roadster, t is a numbers matching frame and motor and is currently running and riding. I bought this bike to make a hardtail bobber, ut decided that since it's a matching numbers bike and since there are so few of them left that I can't cut it up. I'd like to see this go to someone who is going to ride it that knows about carburetors because I certainly don't and that's the only current issue that the bike has.
When I bought the bike it ran great, had a local shop tune the carb and it ran great when I wanted to ride it. After winter it sputtered a little but rode OK, hen it started fouling plugs after about 20-30 miles. I tried to tune it myself (didn't change any jets) but I just can't get it right and honestly I've got an Ultra Limited in the garage that starts every time I press the button and this is too much fiddling for me for something I don't ride often. It has an S&S Super E carb on it currently, ut I do have the original that was on the bike when it was new (I think it's the correct one anyway).
I purchased the bike from a friend as a little city bike so I didn't have to ride the Ultra all the time, nd I was eventually going to turn it in to a bobber. The more I rode it the more I liked it and once I found out it had matching numbers and how rare the Roadsters are, decided to keep it as is, ut then started having the running issues. I just don't have the time and I'm not familiar enough with carburetors to tune it properly and taking it to the shop every time it's out of tune would be ridiculous, o I've decided to get rid of it for another project, ut when it was tuned properly it ran great, loved riding it because it was just so much fun.
All of the parts you see in the pictures are included, t comes with 2 boxes of the original parts, he stock pleated seat, riginal fenders (a little worse for wear, ut original), nd most of the original parts (calipers, and controls, peedo, tc.).
The motor was rebuilt about 1500 miles ago due to some oil leaks (which I understand are common on the ironheads) but only minimal machining was needed as they said everything looked good and measured properly. The fork seals were also done about 1000 miles ago.
I will be the first to admit that I do not know very much about these bikes or motors because I have very little experience, ut please do not hesitate to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer them. You are welcome to come by in the evenings to hear the bike run (it has new plugs in it, 've got the old ones if you'd like to see them) and check it out for yourself. It is a very nice looking bike, nd when the carb was tuned it was a great running bike that I really enjoyed riding. I'm hoping that I can pass it on to someone who will appreciate it for what it is and knows how to work on this type of Harley.
I can deliver the bike if needed to local areas, lease contact me before the auction ends to discuss your particular situation.
I will not end this auction early, o please do not ask. It will go to the highest bidder as there is no reserve, o please bid with confidence.
