1977 Harley Davidson XLCR 1000 Café Racer, nrestored, riginal paint, 771 miles but hasn’t run since 2006. More or less a 75+% completed project bike, ith some work, his bike will be worth thousands more than I am asking. Some recent CR have sold for over $10k. I have owned this CR since 1991. I purchased it from the original owner with 2004 miles, friend who was moving overseas. I took it off the street back in 2006, unning, ut with electrical issues and decided to go completely through it and freshen up everything I could, ut it ended up to be a drawn out project due to work and travel over the years and no time to devote to it. I would rather see someone get it back on the street, han sit in my garage. I never wrecked or laid it down. I have gone through a majority of the bike, ther than the engine. Replaced the wiring harness (old one cracking which source of original problems).
I loosely put the bike partially together for the pictures, o some of the parts might not look properly install. I replaced a lot of parts with as many OEM or NOS parts I could find such as brake lines, ebuilt carb, rake calipers, rake rotors and switches, ust to name a few. I switched from the problematic generator to a Cycle Electric kit. Will need a new battery. The body work is in very good condition especially for it’s age, o rust or dents in gas tank (just minor stuff with age), little cracking of tail section glass at mid-mounting point (see pix)(turn signal mounting points still intact (rare), ront fender raised a bit to put on new generation tires (see pix), nly the fairing has been a problem with stress cracks over the years (I would get a new fairing). New windshield just replaced. Progressive shocks, original ones included). I also replaced the forks with a NOS set (from Bill's Custom Cycle) since the old ones were very pitted with age (old forks come with bike, f you want them). I replaced the working speedo after face clouded up with age and I used this kit that had me cut off the plastic face (bad decision) and glue a new face on, ot pretty, o I put a new speedo on instead (see pix). Actual mileage of the bike is 5771 miles, dding up the 3260 miles (original speedo) and 2511 miles (current speedo). I have a lot of odds and ends that will be included, robably 95% of what you need to finish the project. In preparation of going through the engine that I never got around to, got a good extra set of cylinders and heads off ebay. Had the cylinders professional bored for an included set of new pistons and gasket set. New clutch plates. It is not frozen up, istons will move if push bike in gear (not yet with starter). Personally, would tear it completely down and check everything while installing the new pistons.
For someone with the time, little bit of moneyand some mechanical knowledge, his would be a very good XLCR to be put back on the street. It's your decision, f you would want to repaint it, wouldn't, he original paint is very good, riginal, ven a little rough around the edgesis better than restored in my eyes.
Good luck bidding and getting CR on road.
