Description

This running WL Harley is for sale as is. The seat cover is worn out. Body work has dents and paint has scratches and chips. Chrome has some dull spots. scratches and rust stains in some parts but in general is in acceptable condition. Crash bar and handlebar are not perfectly straight. Oil pressure sensor and/or light is not working. Tires have ¾ live. Brakes feel weak. Speedometer is not original and is not working. It has broken fins due to an incorrect spark plug replacement (not me). Recently we tightened up the sloppy ignition timer. and properly installed the Cap clip. The Handlebar control to timer feels a little tight. but works fine as is. It was running rough and after much messing with the carb. we found the main problem. Bingo! Somebody hand ground a new point on the low speed needle. The one in the bike had been shortened 1/8 in. at least. That made the low speed fuel adjustment impossible. We made a home-made temporary low speed needle and that solved the problem. We installed the new idle needle and test rode the bike. It idles and runs very well now and it starts very easily. I also solved some problems with the steering head bearings. The way they were assembled was incorrect. We straightened them out. After these repairs we took the bike for a short trip around the Big Bend National Park (first few pictures). During the trip the generator stopped charging the battery. We checked all the wiring looking for a short and realized the brushes needed to be replaced. but in the middle of nowhere it was impossible to get a new set. We cleaned them the best we could and increase the charge to the maximum. This put me back on the road. but not for long. Near the McDonald observatory the bike started misfiring and stopped. After two days of trail and error we realized that while checking the wiring we placed a spark wire on top of the head in between the fins. The heat melted the wire cover creating an arc and the engine to misfire. Duh! After looping the spark plug wire above the frame. the bike run perfectly and made the last 300-mile leg back home without a problem. During these two days we adjust the valves. Back at home we installed new brushes. All parts purchased from 45 Restoration Company. Our next project was to install new hardened valve seats to use the bike safely with unleaded fuel. but now is up to you. It takes a while to get used to shifting the gears on the bike. It has a hand shift on the left side of the gas tank with a foot clutch. Once you learn. it’s a blast to ride. It's obviously not a show bike and is far from perfect. but it's a happy bike with only a few reproduction parts. Bike is sold as is. no warranty written or implied. The bike will not be released until payment in full and funds have cleared. There is a non-refundable $500. 00 deposit. required within 24 hours of auction close. please pay deposit via PayPal.
