Description

1968 Honda CB450K1 - Restored very nice!
The Japanese motorcycle industry first made an impact outside its homeland with small-capacity commuter bikes and lightweights, nd for many years the view prevailed in North America and Europe that they were incapable of building effective large-capacity machines. The arrival of the Honda CB450 in 1965 should have dispelled any lingering doubts about Japan’s intention to compete in all sectors of the market. Known affectionately as the ‘Black Bomber’ after its black finish, he CB450 was Honda’s largest model when launched and capitalized on experience gained with a succession of smaller-capacity twins. Nevertheless, he CB450 departed from Honda’s usual practice in a number of ways, n particular its use of twin overhead camshafts, orsion-bar valve springs and constant-velocity carburetors. The tubular frame - replacing Honda’s traditional fabricated spine type - was another departure from the norm. With a top speed of over 100 mph and a standing quarter-mile time in the 14-second bracket, he refined CB450 sounded the death knell, ot just for the traditional British 500 but for the entire UK industry which, ver complacent, ound itself at an ever increasing disadvantage in the all-important US marketplace.
The 1968 CB450K1 represents the end of an era for the Chrome paneled gas tanks. Candy colored bikes ruled the late 60's and 1970's. The bike is also very rare. Only offered for one year this bike is a lot harder to find than CB450K0 Black Bomber.
My bike has been repainted and re-chromed. New NOSGaugeswere used and the bike has approximately 8000 miles from new. I have located the Stainless trim for the seat and will provide it with the purchase. The bike looks and runs great no issues. I get a lot of compliments at shows and events! The pipe does have a couple of dents that were chromed over. (See pictures)The guy said he would fill those in with brass and he did not, he's out of business now.) You can probably buy this bike for less than the restoration costs.
