Offered for your consideration is my beautiful 1934 Indian Chief. She received an extensive 3 year plus frame off restoration, nd no expense was spared. Those of you that know Indians know that 1934's are rare as hens teeth. Other than the first few years Indians were built, he depression years in 1932, 33 and '34 were their lowest production years, uilding only a couple thousand bikes each year. Most of those that survived until WWII were scrapped for the metal to help with the war effort. As a result there's probably only adozen '34 Chiefs left in the world today.
The engine was completely rebuilt by Mike Tomas at Kiwi Indian with fresh pistons and rings, resh overbore (I believe it's .020 over, ut can't remember for sure), ewvalves and guides, ew cams and followers, tc, tc, tc. The transmissionwas rebuilt, he frame and forks jig straightenedandfinaldialing in done by John Bivens at Indian Engineering. I've converted her to a left hand shift / right hand throttle but it's a simple conversion to revert it back to right shift / left throttle if you are a purist. She is a matching numbers bike and comes with a clear title in my name.
The generator was rebuilt by Indian Frank and updated with a solid state voltage regulator tucked inside the old cut-out. It now looks exactly correct down to the proper Autolite tag, ut performs like a modern generator. No burning up batteries or blowing lightbulbs at night! The carb is the correct DLX 100, nd was rebuilt by Cotton at Liberty Motorcycle Specialties, he best in the business. In 1934 Indian did not offer a brake light. I actually ride my bikes so I added a period stop light and switch.
The clutch was updated with a modern Greer unit, hich engages much better and virtually eliminates grinding the gears when you engage first. The correct Corbin speedometer was completely rebuilt by Janus Napierala at the Speedo Shop in Canada. He's rebuilt the speedos for every Indian I own and his work is flawless. The seat is the correct short nose model. The pan was repainted and a new cover with the correct Indian logo on it.
The wheels have new bearings, nd were re-spoked and trued by Buchannan Spoke in Southern California. Tires are new Coker diamond tread 4.00 x 18's. The Horn is original, ebuilt by Roger Long and the face is a repop Indian face cover from Greers. The fenders are original and there is zero rot on them, he sheet metal was like new. The gas tanks are built by Matt Blake at Iron Horse and are new. When it comes to Indian tanks I don't fool around. I virtually always get new ones so there's no problems with 80 year old silver solder giving and dumping fuel all over a hot engine. The battery shell is a repop with the correct Willard Indian markings on them, ith a new battery inside. The headlight is a correct Motolamp.
To make a long story short, o expense was spared bringing this bike back to showroom new condition. And by no expense, mean she has a lot of money in her. The lucky new owner will be purchasing a bike that is better than the day she came off the showroom floor. I would not hesitate to ride this bike across the country.
If you're wondering why I'm offering my old girl for sale, he simple answer is I have no room left in my garage and literally can't walk through there anymore, uch less do restoration work. I need to cull the herd a little bit. I love all my many old Indians and don't want to part with any of them but I've got 5 more Indian projects that I need to finish and simply need room to move around. I decided to sell a few of the bikes I don't ride that much to free up some space. My two go-to bikes are my '47 and my '53 Chiefs so sadly I just don't ride this old girl all that much. I've only put 74 break-in miles on her since the rebuild so she's essentially brand new.
