For sale is a true slice of Americana from the late 70's; one very nice 1978 KZ1000 A2A Commemorative model #178. I bought this bike from the second owner about 5 years ago, ho cared for it extremely well; and I have enjoyed owning it very much. Mileage was around 10 thousand when purchased and now has almost 11K. While it has been in my possession, t was carefully disassembled for thorough engine detailing and to make minor paint repairs to the frame, wing arm, attery box and the Vetter mounting system. The steering neck and swing arm bearings have been checked and serviced, rake calipers and master cylinders have been restored and rebuilt with nos caps and new pads, orks rebuilt and refinished with oem seals and dust boots, os swing arm sleeve and rear wheel with new tire, ew oem sprockets and chain, os rider pegs and turn signals. The exhaust is laser straight and in beautiful condition with no corrosion since it spent most of it's life in a dry state and then climate controlled storage in my home. There are very light wear marks on the top and sides of the mufflers upon close inspection from general use prior to my owing it; but nothing that really stands out. The crossover pipe, wo inner head pipes, eat shields, xhaust studs, lamping rings and keepers are nos as well.
The handle bars with original levers were completely dismantled for detailing and reassembled with nos grips and switches, oltage regulator and main harness are nos as well as oem side cover grommets, irbox ducts and air filter - parts replaced not because the bike really needed it - but more of a fact that I had the pieces in stock and it saves alot of detailing time later. The only reproduction parts on this bike are the rear shocks (originals are included in sale), ase cover phillips screws and tac cable. All of the case covers are nos and were installed with oem gaskets including the oil pan. An automatic cam chain tensioner has been installed to eliminate the effort required to manually adjust it, he valve shims have been adjusted, he carbs with original fuel and vent lines were thoroughly detailed and overall this bike starts, uns, ides and stops beautifully. I never run oem ignitions on bikes that I actually ride and have been using a complete Dyna ignition system during the time that I have owned it - the original coils and breaker points have been put back in. Brand new era correct Vetter crash bar and rear chrome rack were also located and replaced due to wear on the originals and the all of the rubber pads at the mounting points were replaced making this bike as quiet and rattle free as the day that it was built. All of the difficult, ime consuming, xpensive parts and services have already been located and done for you..............
Original paint and graphics body with correctly documented by serial number vetter fairing and bags are in beautiful condition with original Vetter windshield that has never been removed. The white paper inspection date stamp tags - most likely from the Lincoln paint dept. - are still present inside the left fairing pocket and read May 17th 1978 and May 25th (PM). There are faint imperfections in the clear coat here and there, small white paint touch up on the left top fairing and left side lower, ight side cover and tail just behind the seat by previous owner as seen in closeup pics. The tank with painters hallmark still clearly visible has a clean interior and some light sediment down in the lower weld seam. There is age patina with minor flaws to the 'water slide' decals as seen in detail pics the tank and side emblems are nos along with cap seal and petcock. The seat vinyl is soft and pliable with a minor split in one of the seams at the left rear of rider section and a complete tool kit with tray sits under it. The rear fender has light patina from age and the front fender looks to be a new replacement that was on the bike when purchased. The original front wheel is very nice with patina on the spokes, brand new factory keys operate all 3 locks on the bike as well as the original Vetter keys for the rear bags and release locks. I left the the vintage pattern front tire on it for show; but if you really wanted to use this bike alot; it should be replaced as it has very minor weather checking. Every nut, olt, lamp and washer that was used to mount the Vetter system has been retained or is new making this bike completely correct as delivered right down to the normally missing highway pegs. The bike is dusty from use and could use a thorough detailing. Never abused or neglected in any way, feel that this bike easily grades within the top 10 turn key drivers still in existence.
To give a little history on these bikes, hey were produced in conjunction with Craig Vetter for a promotion dubbed the 'All American Rideaway' to celebrate Kawasakis Lincoln, E production plant and top performing mid west dealers group. The numbered body set is 100 digits lower than the frame number which is correct for all and the 'AE' Series engines never correlate to bike number in any way since 3 distinct models shared the same drive train at the time; the A, LTD and C Police models. Documentation included with the bike are copies of the one magazine article that I have been able to find, rate manual, orrect A2A owners manual with Kawasaki letter stating rear tire air pressure revision to compensate for the luggage system, ltra rare Good Times newsletter mentioning the promotion and clear paperwork in my name. Super clean, risp, orrect and complete; this rare bike is ready to ride or display and is located in western upstate NY. Personal inspections are welcomed and encouraged and I am happy to answer any additional questions. I do not handle shipping, ut am happy to assist since there is a Uship affiliate within 7 miles of my home. Although I would recommend enclosed ship as this bike is huge with many unique and hard to find parts. There is also Forward Air service here which has amazing enclosed containers and is within 12 miles of my location. Thanks for viewing my sale and you can buy with confidence as I have over 35 yrs experience in the 72 - 80 Kawasaki inline 4's.
